Welcome to History of Magic. I am your teacher, Professor Rowena Godefroy, pronounced God-free. You may call me Professor G if it is simpler. The only required material for this class is History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, ready parchment, a wand, and ink.
Lets look at the grading system:
Pass:
O - Outstanding
E - Excpetional
A - Acceptable
Fail:
P - Poor
D - Dreadful
T - Troll
You will be PM'd your current grade average at the end of every month, receiving a final score at the end of the year. Your final grade will be posted.
Next the lesson Plan,
1st years will learn early wizarding history dating back to Egypt. 2nd years will be educated about the history of Hogwarts. 3rd years will have the benefit of learning about their favorite sport, Quidditch. The 4th years will learn of Wizarding Influence on Muggle Society. 5th years will be taught about the history of Muggles in Wizarding society. 6th and 7th years will be taught of the Wizarding worlds threats since ancient times.
Homework is due the within a week (5 days) of assignment.
Extra Credit is given once every 2 weeks and due with the next homework assignment. Homework is to PM'd to me with title Homework with your year after it. If you are putting in extra credit, please put EC next to your year. Extra Credit is worth 10-40 housepoints depending on the difficulty of the question.

3rd Year Lesson
Now before we start, Quidditch began as a crude game. It wasn't the complex sport we know today, in fact many opposed the game. Gertie Keddle is credited with writing her diary "that lot from across the marsh playing a stupid game on their broomsticks." The bludgers, quaffle, and snitch, all the balls you know of didn't come until later. In fact official teams weren't established until the following century.
The game started as merely broomsticks racing from one point to another. The game we all know and love today started in the Scandinavian country of Sweden.
Homework: Your homework is to determine from which places in Sweden did the game start and end?

5th Year Lesson
5th years since this is the year of your OWLS you will be getting not only the required information for your year but review information.
Lets begin
During the medieval era, wizards, more so witches than wizards were persecuted and eventually killed for their practice of magic. Common methods included burning at the stake, hanging, and other less desirable ways of punishment and torture.
Not only were wizards persecuted but goblins, werewolves and many others who now reside in our world were killed. It was then disillusionment charms came into use as a way to hide us from Muggle World.

5th Year Assignment - August 22nd, 2007
Alright 5th years, lets get down to work.
In continuation with our discussion on witches lets discuss two famed Arthurian legends, the witch Morgana, sister of King Arthur himself and Merlin, the original wizard.
Merline first appeared in muggle history in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae and is later described in detail as the right hand man of King Arthur. It has also later been said that the very existence of Arthur is due in partial to the wizard.
Legend has it he killed Morgana's father and disguised (through magic) King Uther to go after the Lady Igraine, their mother. It obviously worked and thus Arthur was born. As such it greatly affected the lives of Morgana and their elder sister Morgawse. The eldest daughter was sent to be married and Morgana was sent to an early convent.
Now on with your homework which is due this coming Monday.
What possible magic, whether it be charms or potions could Merlin have used on King Uther.

"Good question Illuminatus. It is not sure if she married him or not. What is sure is he disguised himself as her husband (who unknown to her was dead) with the aid of Merlin and seduced the woman.

"Fifth years, your written assignment is on the board as well as homework. My older and younger students have none this week, however keep in mind 6th and 7th years yours will be out next week! Along with extra credit for your year!" said Professor Godefroy. The shutters burst open letting light pour in.
"Today we shall begin the in-class work. Can anyone tell me the proper eating habits of crumple horned snorkack?" chuckled Rowena. She placed her bejeweled sunglasses on.
"In class we will learn about the properties and history of wizard kind. Starting with diseases!" She flicked her wand at the boy nearest her. His face immediately covered with a strange pox and soon is body was covered as well. "Can anyone tell me what famous disease this is?"

"Good, and since you gave the answer you get the class assignment waivered from your grade." Rowena flicked her wand and instantly the whole class was covered in Dragon pox, save Illuminatus.
"Does anyone know the cure? Once you figure it out then I'll transform you back," said Rowena.

"Good job Illuminatus, that was indeed the answer, the cure is unknown to all but a select few of St. Mungo's, as the ingredients are dangerous to handle. 25 points to Slytherin," said PRofessor Godefroy. She flicked her wand and the spots disappeared from everyone.
"On to more important things in the world of Wizarding health, does anyone know who can tell me who started the famous hospital?" asked Professor Godefroy.

6th and 7th Year Lesson and Written Assignment. September 5th, 2007 (Due Monday, September 17th, 2007)
As the older wizards of our school you shall learn of the darkest wizards in history, starting with one of the first known. Is everyone familiar with the name Set? I thought not.
As one of the first known wizards, commonly called a god by most muggles at the time he is among the most hated in Egyptian mythology. Credited with locking his brother, the wizard Osiris in a tomb and tossing it into the Nile River and later chopping him into parts and scattering them across Egypt. Isis, his wife and her sister Nephthys later went in search of the body, putting him back together once all the pieces were found.
Your Homework:
a minimum two sentence essay on Set dividing his brother and causing him to essentially "disappear" and the possible spells and potions with a reason as to why these would be useful.
Extra Credit.
A 2-3 sentence min. paragraph stating what spells Isis and her sister could have used, along with an explanation as to why they would've been useful
