Illuminatus stalked up the stairs to the dormitory, glad for the darkness and the absence of others. A 70 foot serpent with glittery black scales and gold eyes followed him. He had arrived late, and everyone else was at the feast. His name was Esrath, and he was definitely not a pet. Illuminatus unpacked his things, and said to Esrath, "I've got to shrink you now. I don't think they'd take kindly to a 70 foot Darksnake following me around." Esrath hissed in distaste. "The proper term for my species is Salagazh, as you full well know. Oh, all right. Just shrink me evenly."
"Reducio." Esrath became three feet long and slithered up to Illuminatus's shoulder. "At least the view's better up here," he joked, tickling Illuminatus's ear with his tongue.
"Here's to a year ripe with opportunity," said Illuminatus, cloak trailing behind him like liquid shadow as he went down to the feast. "Borgin and Burkes was great. We sure found some fun stuff in there..." He straightened his new cloak fondly.
