I recently picked up "Hayate, The combat butler" and it was funny as fun could be.
It stars Hayate, a boy who has worked since the age of nine to support his lazy parents. However, at his latest job, where he is noted as being the world's fastest delivery boy, he gets fired because his parents blab that he is under age. Also, they blow his 170,000 Yen paycheck on pachinko, leaving him only 12 Yen.
On top of that, for Christmas, his parents leave him the gift of paying back their 156 million Yen (1.3 Million dollars) debt to the Yakuza, and he has to pay it back, or else he will get his organs harvested.
In order to do so, he attempts to kidnap a young girl, Nagi, and hold her for ransom, but Nagi thinks he is confessing his love to her. However, she gets kidnapped by other Yakuza, and Hayate and the Nagi's maid, Maria, who has been looking for her save the day. Hayate asks the grateful girl if she could find him a job, before passing out from blood loss.
The Crossdressing comes up in the first volume, and in subsequent volumes. The first instance is when Hayate is asked (and then forced) to wear a sailor school girl's uniform, and then a cat girl outfit.

Crossdressing doesn't happen too much though. It was funny when the older Butler put the image of Hayete wanting to be a bride into everyone's head.
