[*So This Is The End..*]

Everything was different, even though it was all the same..I can't explain it with words, it would be pointless. The table tops were smoother and the light was dimmer, maybe it was just the bulb, or I hadn't been exactly paying attention to these trivial things before, but now..No, it was different. I could feel it in my gut. The once black television screen was now a dark portal into another realm..Enticing me..inviting me in. What was wrong with me?! My fingertips went down the cold surface of the mirror, but my reflection wasn't there..I couldn't see it at least, it was too dark. The crash of thunder made me jump up from my spot, then feeling foolish, I returned to my bed, only to discover someone was already in it. Jumping back, my eyes wide, I couldn't make out who it was..but there was no breath emitting from the figure. Holding back a wave of nausea and the scream building in my chest, I kneeled down next to it. The body..how..did it get here..in my room..Lightning danced across the sky and I made out the features perfectly in just a matter of seconds..That was me. And even though I screamed, no one heard me. I was perfectly solid, but I wasn't me..my body laid in that bed still and I had forgotten how this had happened. I fell back against the wall, looking at my hands worriedly. I thought I'd just fall through the wall and not be this solid..what was I?! What had happened to me...

The young woman walked briskly down the narrow alleyway, not paying attention to anything but the watch on her wrist. Hurriedly, she made her way through, her heels clacking on the pavement as her hand reached up and she opened a door on the side of the building. She walked through the hallway without much notice, the rats scurried across the hall upon hearing her approach, her still not paying much mind to anything. Her eyes finally wandered upward as she paused in front of a door, the name plate old and rusted read Kate Cross with Investigator under it. Grabbing a key from the inside of her jacket she was wearing, producing a key and pushing the door open as soon as the key kit the lock. Tossing off her jacket to the side, she glanced around the dim room, her face straight with concentration as she lifted up the window to let in a cool breeze, the sun shining weakly, lighting up her desk and the stacks of papers on it. They covered the many different things she had lain on her desk, such as the phone which had just started to ring..

Autumn stumbled getting up, clumsily she brushed off her pants..as if that mattered now..Trembling, she glanced around the room. The sun was bound to rise any moment and she was awfully nervous for some odd reason. Bad feelings aroused in her when someone was to find out she was..Suddenly, her eyes widened and she let out a laugh that was next to a pitiful attempt..This had to be a terrible dream! Why, this couldn't have happened, no, not at all! How silly she was being. Hesistantly, she approached her bed. The blood stained her clothes and her sheets..how odd the color looked. Drawing a hand downwards, she went to feel it, to see if it was wet. Frozen there, she could still feel the moist warm blood on her fingertips. She immediately drew her hand back in repulsion, looking at her perfectly clean hand. She inspected the hand..then the other, as if looking for some hidden code that was imprinted beneath her skin..but she found nothing. Nothing that would explain this dreadful situation. There was a rap on the door. Turning to look at it, her head tilted slightly to the side, as if not understanding what that meant. Her mother's sweet voice on the other side, beckoning her to arise and get ready. Tears suddenly spilled down her cheeks and she ran for the door, when her hand went through it. Staring at the door now and her invisible hand, she let out a scream of terror, stumbling back onto her butt. She sat there..there had been no pain, but it seemed..when she had lost control of her emotions and had really wanted to..she just went right through the door. Standing, she paused at the door, her mother rapping once more and telling her more firmly that she was going to be late if she didn't wake up now. She attempted again, but her hand merely clung onto the doorknob now, but she could not turn it..it wouldn't budge to her displeasure. She immediately stepped back when there was loud banging on the door, now her father trying to get her to open the door..Glancing down, she saw it was clicked locked. She tried to unlock it, but again, she couldn't. She merely watched in horror, her stomach in knots as her father banged louder on the door.
It's just a dream, it's just a dream, it's just a ******** nightmare..and I'm going to wake up right when he opens the door..I'm going to get up and laugh about how weird my mind works and..
The door shot open, making her gasp in shock. Her father was saying something about getting the lock taken off when he stopped dead in his tracks. She saw it happen..she saw his face shift and turn into something she had never seen before. And he ran past her to the bed, yelling and screaming and crying all at once. Closing her hands over her ears she fell back onto the floor as soon as she saw her mother in the doorway, rocking back and forth and trying to drown out their screams of horror and sorrow and grief..Moaning in pain, she began screaming herself. She could feel their hands on her, but they were not touching her..they were touching her body. Their hands all over her..their screams in her ears..deafening..Louder she screamed, but it didn't block out their overwhelming pain directed at her. Her mother was sobbing and clutching her body and her father, now his shirt soaked in blood had gone out, tears soaking his cheeks to the hallway..she guessed to call the ambulance and police. Slowly, she stopped rocking and uncovered her ears, standing up on her shaky legs..She wanted to look at her mother, to run to her and hug her, but she knew it was pointless. Numbly, she could feel the pressure that her mother was putting on her body was fading..like a distant memory. Soon she wouldn't feel anything that her body felt..her body died more slowly then she thought, she supposed..Dumbstruck, she merely watched as the ambulance and police arrived, unable to move do or say anything..she merely watched with gloom as they took her body away, struggling with her mother who wouldn't dare let her go..

What a Case. That was all that came to mind as Kate Elizabeth looked over her new case for the 5th time. It seemed like any normal murder case, however, a few things didn't add up. It would have helped if her parents hadn't touched her body so much. All the evidence right there gone. The trouble of such things. Didn't they watch the shows or something? Should have known to not touch the body.

She shook her head leaning back in her chair. She knew that wasn't true. She knew she would do that if it was her child. She shook her head once more glaring slightly at the case before flopping it down on her desk, listening to it slightly make a noise from the contact with the desk. She would solve this case just like the rest. She knew that. She didn't like to let it rest until she did.

You could say that this young lady, at the age of 26, had a personal hate of cold cases. She had her reason, don't look at her bad. Her past was the reason she was where she was today. The reason she even got cases, even though from where she worked you would have never thought she did. She lived where she lived because of... her lack of money. She saved lifes and solved crimes and still got paid hardly nothing!

Well, her life as an investigator and the start of her dislike of cold cases began with her father. Alex Cross. The man was like her, but more in police force then on their own time. He was known for saving so many lifes, except his own. He tried to solve a case that no one wanted solved and he was killed for it. The cold case that brought her to become who she was.

Well, she solved that case and was sitting in the hot chair with all those others known for everything they did. But still, that wasn't her life. she didn't care about fan and glory like others did. She cared for the love of helping someone be at pease. You couldn't believe that these people who had these hard deaths would be at pease. No, you had to make sure their murder got what was coming to them. That's why she was there.

However, this newest case brought her down. She couldn't get it. She needed help. More then just her partner. She sighed staring at the vanilla folder. She let her hand cover her eyes as she rubbed her tempo and cleared her thoughts.

Kate Cross. She was a beautiful women, with a nice and athletics body for her time int he gym when she had the chance. As she leaned back in her chair her blonde hair attracted the beams of light that came from the window, from the large moon lumming in the distance. She always wore it up on a but, or a pony tail. She wasn't one for having her hair down. Just like she wasn't one for have relationships. She had people to save and such. She had dark blue eyes that seemed deadly and serious in a way but mysterious in another. It was just like her life.

Rick sighed, walking into the office. He'd heard that his partner, Kate already had a new case. He'd heard a few details about it, the age of the girl and how she died was all he knew. He shook his head a bit after closing the door.

He looked over at Kate for a second before walking over to his desk just to the left. He opened a drawer, shutting it just as quickly as he opened it. It was empty as usual and he shook his head. He finally sat down, placing his feet up on his desk and staring at the ceiling.

"Can I see the folder of this new case?" His voice was a bit deep, cold-hearted in a sense. He wanted to see the pictures and read up a bit on the family. He knew he probably wouldn't get much information on any outside sources, but anything about the parents and the girl would help in some way. As at least it would tell how well they all got along. He didn't suspect the parents, but it'd tell something.

He was unaware of what was to come. He did know something was up, he could just feel that she wasn't going to put him on this case, not just yet anyways. He couldn't do anything about it anyways and sometimes they did pile up on jobs that it took them both to do a separate one.

He rose to his feet after a bit to walk towards the desk. She didn't like to have to get up and hand the folders to him personally when he could get up himself. He wasn't much taller than she was, maybe a foot or so over. "Headache?" He noticed she rubbed her temples, just shaking off the headache he had. He was use to them and much more pain. The way he acted towards things, the way he stood, the way he spoke, the look of his face, everything he did, said of him having a rough life. One where he was practically surviving on his own, hanging to life by a thread sometimes.

He looked over noticing another folder laying out. "You're putting me on a different case aren't you?" He shook his head a little. "If so, just give me the details you got and i'll get on it." He held his hand out, just waiting to receive one of the two folders to look at.

Kate hadn't actually noticed that her partner, Rick, had entered the office his desk drawer opened and shut quickly. Almost scarying her, however she hid it well since she was used to him doing that. She had worked with him for a few years now. They knew each other's habits well. However, she also noticed that was all they really knew about each other.

She didn't really care that they didn't though, it was better that way anyways. They didn't need to know much to work with each other, so why learn what didn't need to be known. She heard him speak and couldn't help but sigh helplessly. This was one case she didn't want to have to send him away to do something else for. She didn't answer his question for that reason.

She didn't want to think about that other case that she had to send him on. She would have sent it to someone else if they hadn't wanted him to do it personally. It was annoying form her point of view. She needed his help but then she couldn't have it.

he said another thing but once again she ignored it. Finally lowering her hands from rubbing her tempo. How the irony in all of this. When he noticed the second folder she knew she couldn't just hid it tell after this case was solve. Not that she really was going to do that in the first place. It was only what she wished she could be doing.

"Yes.. you have another case." She answered in her normal calm and rough tone. All business you could say was her moto. She picked up the folder next to the her case and held it out to him, her movement quick and rough. She didn't want to be giving him the folder and send him somewhere else.

"I want you to hurry it if you can though.. I need you on his case.. I had a copy made for you to look over when you have the time." She sighed a bit shaking her head and pulling it out of her desk handing that to him. "Well be needing both our heads for this. I have a feeling."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2007 1:59 am

Rick sighed, grabbing both folders. He wanted to look at the new case she was needing him for but just left it at the bottom of the two. He walked to his desk and placed it in the drawer he had opened before. He figured he shouldn't let two jobs run in his mind at one time.

He opened up the folder, skimming through it slowly, taking up all the info it had which seemed to be a lot. He shook his head. He couldn't figure out why they couldn't give this job to someone else. It had all the witnesses needed. All that they had to do was connect them together and figure out which one was the actual killer. A few clues was all that was needed too and that was probably at the crime scene.

He got to his feet and headed for the door. "I'll be gone the rest of the week... I'll be back at the end of the week to check up on things. I should be close to wrapping up this case by then..." He opened the door up. "Then we can work on the bigger case when I get it complete..."

He faced her, just to see if she had anything to say. They both kept things short, but the most they talked was when it was about a job or something. Once she had spoke her words he was headed out the door and off to start with the case, long nights ahead of him.

Kate didn't find the need to speak to him. She only briskly nodded her head and looked back down at the file on her desk. She waited awhile in the office after he left, staring at the case tiredly. Her eyes turned and glanced at the clock as it flashed 10:43.

She actually hadn't noticed it had gotten that late. She never got to actually look at the crime scene since there had been so many people to talk to. It had been busy in that room. She had told the girl's parents to spend a few days away while they investigated. They had been in such a wreck that she was thinking of just giving them a week break while she solved it.

They needed to keep the crime scene open for a bit. At least a few days. She even promised she'd clean it up for them once everything was all done. She always tried to be nice to the families of the deceased. She had just needed them away for a bit.

They seemed to have taken it after a bit and she set up something for them at a motel not far from home if they did find the need to come home. She had that number penciled in next to the printed number on the case. She still could use a few night pictures of the place. To get in the feel like the killer had. The coroner had announced the death about a few hours after this own time. So it was nice into the night.

She shook her head a bit and rose to her feet, walking briskly from the office, grabbing her fancy camera and slung it around her neck, the folder tucked under her arm, and a cup of coffee in the other. She wasted no time in closing up and once the lights and everything was closed up and locked she made her way do the allay to her car. She didn't seem to notice anyone or seemed to care if anyone would show up.

She reached her green car quickly. A normal four door. She opened the door the tot he driver seat and slide into her seat, tossing the vanilla onto the passenger seat and her coffee into the cup rests. She stuck her keys in the engnishion before buckling on her seat belt and driving onto the still busy road. The city, an always busy place. She sighed a bit at the flashing lights as she drove, the noises, the lights, the smell. It was something a girl like her didn't like. She had grown up in the country area more then city.

She was slightly glade when she drove up into the driveway because it wasn't in the middle of the busy city more to the side in the house area. Which brought her back to the question. Why was it this house and her room? It didn't make that much since because her room wasn't in excluded place or anything. She shook her head a bit making her way tot he window taking a few picture there.

While taking pictures of the window she was sure she noticed something. Holding her camera down she looked into the window again, figuring she imagined it when she didn't see anyone. Just it being night and a murder scene, that was it, there wasn't anyone there. As she made her way tot he room she couldn't help but grab her gun from in between her jacket and collared button down shirt. her normal dress for work. with a pair of heels and slack pants. She slowly opened the door, pulling her gun whens he saw someone but dropping it right after.

"Your dead?!" She gasped staring at the girl standing in the crime scene, "You can't be here.... your dead. I saw you in the coroner office. You were dead."

Autumn watched all the police come and go, feeling all too weak to move at all, if even possible. Though she tried to convince herself still that she was asleep and dreaming, the thought slowly faded from her mind. Some part of her knew that it wasn't true..she was dead, but she lingered, hoping that mabye..just mabye it was a bad dream and she'd wake up soon. Hours past and her parents left, them both a wreck. THe police still stayed and blocked off the area until they found it necessary to leave with their evidence and all. Brooding over the matter, she tried to make sense of it, but couldn't exactly. She knew she should be feeling more..but it's like when she didn't feel strongly, she didn't feel at all..If her body was dead, what did that make her exactly? She figured perhaps now all that was left of her was her soul..perhaps not even that. More literal terms would classify her as a ghost..it almost made her laugh and she probably would have if she was still alive. But now she felt no need for it. She felt no need to even be here. If she was dead, she'd rather be in the here-after..whatever and wherever that was. She didn't want to see this. She didn't want to attend her own funeral, she didn't want to see her parents in so much pain, she didn't..Turning to the voice, she frowned, her brows furrowing. Looking down at herself, she could now tell she was transparent, the moon gleaming right through her.
"No no no..don't say that! Someone saying that makes it real and it can't be..it just can't be.." she shouted, covering her ears with her hands and walking in the opposite direction. She sat down on the bed with her back to the woman, rubbing her upper arms though it did nothing. She didn't feel it, but it somewhat comforted her.

Kate frowned a bit freezing in her spot as she slowly bent over and picked up her gun sliding it back into it's holster as she watched the girl. This couldn't be real. This girl was see through. She was a ghost or the girl murdered? That didn't happen. Yes, things like this didn't happen.

She believed in an after life and such but never thought that ghost were really real. News check Kate. They are. You got one to help with your case. At that thought it occurred to her that this might have been what she needed.

" Your... Autumn right? You don't need to yell.. I can hear you just fine." She spoke calmly trying to keep it simple, which was easy for her. She shook her head a little watching her calmly, before glancing around the room. The crime scene.

"I'm the investigator. I'm the lady who's solving your case. Kate Cross." She watched Autumn. She wore the clothes that she had died in it seemed.

"I'm sorry to ask this. I know it must be hard to deal with this. But did you see who... murdered you?" She questioned softly, unsure how to put it lightly. "I will solve this case. that's what I do. My partner and I. He will be helping out later. Do you want.. uh.. talk about it?" She must be losing it. She was talking to someone who shouldn't even be there. Yep, she's been up too late.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:47 pm

Autumn was listening but she didn't show any sign that she had heard a word said by the woman. She sat perfectly still with her back to her, wondering if she concentrated hard enough that she could fall right through the bed. Trying not to think about it, she looked down at her hands with a tired sigh, though she was unsure of if she would ever actually feel tired again.
"No," she said, her voice muffled as she bent down covering her face with her hands, but not feeling it. She wanted desperately to feel her hands on her face but there was nothing. "I didn't see anything..the last thing I remember is laying down to go to sleep and when I woke up I saw myself dead..why am I still here? I don't understand why this is happening..And where did they take my parents? They would never have hurt me, if that's what they think! And I never..I never got to make up with my father and tell him I loved him..why can you see me and he can't?!"
Her whole "body" was shaking now, trembling with fear of the thought of wha would happen next. She wasn't sure, but she had a feeling things couldn't get much better. I mean, waking up to your own dead body..top that in the list of bad things. Slowly she stood up and placed her hand on the windowpane, not feeling the cold glass beneath her fingers, but seeing everything in great detail. She could see every blade of grass, every branch on every tree, every sleeping and non sleeping thing within the mile she could see. he beauty she had missed while she was alive..sickened her. She had never cared about any of this before, but now it surrounded and smothered her. She turned suddenly to Kate.
"You mean..you don't know who killed me? No one has found out.." she stopped suddenly, looking to her bed. The sheets had been stripped off and there was a blood stain still left on the matress.
"Please..take me to my body..I need to see..just please understand, I need to see.."

"No. Your parents are suspects. They both were crying so hard I told them to go and stay away from the house for a little while I work on the case. It helps to not have to look at it and see and bunch of police hanging around and such.

"I don't know why I can see you and no one else can. I've never seen a ghost before in my life, so this doesn't make sense to me either... Well I know Rick not gonna believe me when I tell him this." She sighed softly the little part last part about Rick more to herself.

"No, I think he would think I've finally lost it." She sighed. She slowly looked at Autumn who started at her wanting to see her body.

"I don't think you do. She's in the coroners office. You would like what you see probably. Can you even leave this place? Like go into a car to go somewhere?" She asked a bit sighing, "I will show you if you really need me to.. maybe you shouldn't remain in this house either..." She stared at the floor she couldn't believe she was doing this.

"Do you think maybe if you stay with me for the time being you'll be okay..?" She questioned, "I could use your help. This is something any investigator would help love. You know about what happen in your life and such. It's a great insight. In case... it's someone you knew."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2007 4:21 pm

"I'm not sure..I've never tried to, I hadn't thought of a reason to leave, really."
She paused, looking around at her room..what was going to happen to it? There had been tons of people in here..going through her things, the room had been torn apart and anything that had made any significant clue to what might have happened was taken. Taking a step forward, she walked towards Kate, but then straight past her through the door way. She felt as though there was a barrier there..perhaps since it had held some meaning since she died there but she walked through easily enough.
"I think..it would be best to stay with you for now. What else can I do? Mabye helping out and finding out what happened will help me somehow," she said, turning back now in the hallway to look at Kate.
"I don't need you to come with me, I just don't know how to get there..you don't understand, but I need to see myself. I need to see myself, for myself. Mabye I can remember.."
With a sigh she stopped, there was a pain in her gut when she tried to think. Someone she knew..Her thoughts lurged at Victor. But, Victor would never..! She was unsure now though. He had been so angry and distressed with her, she could clearly remember what he had said to her the night before last..before she had woken up dead. She longed to see him suddenly, but then felt repulsed by the thought. He had been so..different lately. The break up had been imminent since he had started to become a class A jerk.

Kate watched her silently slightly gasping when she walked through her. She didn't need her just walking through her like that. She would have to get used to that kind of thing. Ghosts. What had she got herself into. She turned her body to walk out the door. She looked at Autumn, moving to the hall slowly.

"Yes. I don't think you should stay here, I'll let you come stay with me. Yes, I could use all the help I can get... just gonna have to work around having you around and talking to Rick when he's back. Oh, Rick is my partner..." She briskly walked past her sighing a bit.

"Doesn't look like I'll get any good pictures of that room at night. "She glanced back before looking to her, "One minute I need at least a few." She moved back to the room quickly flashing some pictures of the room and such.

"There we can go."She told her calmly as she made her way back down to their car, looking at the passengers door, "Can you get into that?"
