Athletics

Athletics is for any one of any age. Generally, athletes can begin from around 5 years of age and compete until they are old and frail.

It can be for fun, for fitness or for competition reasons. All are acceptable in this sport and it is great for anyone who doesn't know what type of sport they will be good at.

Athletics contains three major componants:
- Running/Walking
- Jumping
- Throwing

Sometimes there is a forth:
- Combined events

Then under each of these sections are different events which will be explained in the following posts.

If you are interested in starting athletics, look up a club closest to you and call about going along for a tryout. Most clubs do not charge for the first day and it is a fairly cheap sport if you are there for the fun, fitness or social reasons.

But there are money componants to it:
- Uniform (top, shorts, hat)
- Shoes (spikes)
- Registration fees
- Weekly comp fees
- Regional/state/international fees
- Possible training fees
- Possible equipment purchase/hire fees (for training)

How much you want to be involved in the sport is up to you and obviously the more in to the sport you get, the more expensive it will become with personal training, specialised shoes and equipment, competition fees and travel expenses.
