I'm just curious as to what everyone's opinions on "Spoilers" are.

Please, feel free to discuss the topic here, I'll work on getting a debate/discussion subfroum up in the mean time.

My views on Spoilers are pretty simple, they don't brother me much, if anything they make me WANT to see the series in question more. I don't care much about the end result of a series so much as what happened to get there. I watch a series for the story, not the ending.

I can see where some people come from with not wanting people to blurt out spoiler information, I'm aware that they bother some people and those people DO think that it ruins the series for them, they enjoy NOT knowing what happens, it keeps it a surprise for them, and I'm fine with that, hence why I put any spoilers I post in this format

==>The Fifth Hokage dies<==

This way to see the text you HAVE to make a conscious decision to highlight the text, thus your viewing the spoiler under your own free will and it's no longer my problem.

What really gets me is people that just throw out spoilers with no regards to who may be reading them, I mean have the common courtesy to hide them somehow or at the very least put a disclaimer or warning at the top of your post that the post itself MAY contain spoilers. If everyone did this there would be less conflict on the net.

Anyways, add to the thread people I'm dying to know what all your opinions are ^^

I, personally, love anime and manga spoilers. Books and movies, not so much, but I love anime and manga spoilers. I don't really care if people highlight or not.

But when I'm talking with a mixed group (Bleach, for example. I'm on the latest anime episodes and manga chapters, while there are others who follow the American release of the anime and manga, or only watch the Japanese anime, so of course they'll be behind me) I'll post major spoilers in white. If it's minor spoilers that a good chance of the people have seen or will see in a few weeks, I don't hide them.

But I think it all depends on the situation. Using Bleach again, if we were talking about the Arrancar or the Hueco Mundo arcs, I wouldn't feel the need to post all in white. That would be a little tiresome. I think hidden spoilers should only be used for random spoilers. I think if you're having an entire conversation circling those spoilers, then it should be fine to show it.

But I'm the type of person who isn't very patient when it comes to manga and anime, so I could just be unusually okay with it.

How I feel with regards to what should and shouldn't be in white is:

Major spoilers in which, unexpected plot lines are divulged, a main character dies or a story line revelation is made known, should be white IF it's in a general discussion thread where NOT everyone may be as far along in the series as you are.

Ultimately it's a "Think before you post" thing.

Minor spoilers like... the outcome of a fight or... expected romantic plot building doesn't have to be in white. The way I see it is, if it's pretty much expected or has very little to do with the actual story, then knowing about it wouldn't ruin someone's fun.

I still stand by at the very least putting a warning at the top of your post telling people that spoilers MIGHT be present, that way if someone doesn't want to read the spoilers they don't have to, common courtesy and all.

I don't mind people posting spolier, as long as its in white so people have the choice to read them if they want.

I personally love spoilors, to me it just make's things more interesting and it's something to look forward too. (:

But some people do have a problem with it so I think that all the time for spoilores we should do the white text thing so then you can chose to read it or not. (I always choose too though.. hehehe)

I think it should be alright to post spoilers with a REALLY BIG title saying "spoiler warning" like they do (sometimes) on Wikipedia. I think this because I'm too lazy to highlight text.

I'm not that bothered by minor spoilers, but I get annoyed if it's something huge, like a major character death (Wikipedia totally spoiled me re: major character death in Gurren Lagann. I was just reading a plot synopsis after I had seen a few episodes of the anime to get a better idea of what was happening, and then Wiki is like, 'LOL GUESS WHO DIES XD' And I now hate Wiki. And am sad, because I loved that character a lot. It still upset me, even when I knew it was coming. T-T )
