Hi every one i was so preoccupied reading all these threds that i almost forgot to ask my own questions!
Ok so i live with my friends and his mom owns four horses. Out of all her horses of course her clydestale love my the best. He follows me everywhere i go! i spend so much time out there with them he wont let any of the other horses come near. me. This makes me sad becasue i love the Percheron(sorry about the spelling), the black paint and of course the min guy buddy. Buddy is the only one who really sticks up to him funny enough because he tries to follow me almost as much.
Anyway the thing i need help with is the clydestale is so big and pushy (and heart sweet) he gets really close to stomping on my toes every time he follows me. This gets me nervous, im in ballet so i NEED my feet. Im only 4feet 11 inches lol. How can i show him not to step on me? HE doesnt let me out of the gait either.....
Also, for the black paint, she has a really really bad fly problem on her face. it makes me really sad to see her. o dont know what the owner plans on doing about it, but i take care of her horses alot so if there is anything i cant do i love to help. What causes so many flies to be around, is it the horse poo? i clean that also.

I cleaned a trackters worth of horse poo today. 3 hours worth of hand shoveling. that was only alf of it.

First off, make sure you have proper boots on while around the horse. Like paddock boots. No trainers/clogs/thin walled shoes etc.
If he starts getting pushy - push back. Put your hand on his chest/shoulder/flank and give a good push. Saying 'Move!' or 'Back up!' loud and sharp. That gets their attention.
If he is pushy around the gate or in a particular area, like a stall , try the same thing, but with a bit more force. If you have to (and he's not skittish) go ahead and throw up your arms and yell something like 'Get up off me!' while walking towards him.
He may be big; but all you have to do is act big.
Last but not least - do not be afraid to get your feet stepped on. If you think about it and are nervous about it - it's more likely to happen. It doesn't hurt as much as you think either. Sure, you might get a bruise, but it's not going to break all of the bones in your foot. Plus, most horses know when they've stepped on a toe/foot because it's uneven ground and they'll pick up their foot again.

Savanna Baby Boo My suggestion about the fly problem is to just get them fly masks :3 You can pick them up in whatever size at your local tack or feed shop *just be sure to get the right size for each one* and put it on them on in the morning and take them off in the evening :3 You can also use flyspray, but you gotta be carful not to get it below the top of the halter line and out of the eyes. :3 If it's only the faces that are the probolem though you'd probobly be best to just get the flymasks. *just be sure no flies get under the mass while you put them on! x3*
I would suggest Somthing like this *the fuzz helps give it a more softer feel for them.*:

Or if fuzz ain't you thing... [img]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/ko-nako/flymask3.jpg[/g]
You can also get them to cover the whole face, So if it's not just the eyes your worried about :3
[img]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/ko-nako/flymask2.jpg[/]
And of course to cover the ears as well :3
[img]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/ko-nako/flymask2.jpg[/
Today i got the paint to let me put the fly mask on her blaugh . It just took, 30 min of grooming, a ten min walk, some extra hay, she had to sniff it, then i rubbed in on her and talked a bit, showed her an apple and it was all set heart !
