With the days slowly starting to cool, Bastet strolled about through an ashen and scarred part of the forest. The peak of summer had come and gone, but the weather was still hot and dry for now, and as a result, a number of fires had taken a hold of the forests and meadows, killing off a good deal of the creatures that lived within as well.

While the wyrm of summer's heat loved this to some extent, she found herself a bit short of food lately because of some of the fires that had ravaged through the area. Perhaps she had gone a little overboard with her influences over the temperature, but she doubted that.

Then, much further ahead, she spotted some movement. It was a young buck, headed towards greener pastures or so to speak, and looking for anything he could possibly eat in the ash filled grounds. Finally, she would be able to have a decent meal.

While his partly fiery nature made him welcome to the heat of summer days, Thrynor felt himself oddly longly for the cool of autumn. Sure, it was nice and hot now, but he was sick of wildfire and dried-up grass and difficult hunting. Since he was going to be eating fish for most of the winter, it'd be nice to find some real red meat now, and with the heat, nothing wanted to venture out into the open. It made finding food a bit of a challenge.

I suppose water plants would make a fine meal... The very thought of it made him want to gag. No, that simply wouldn't do for lunch today. He needed something with a bit more substance.

Tucking his wings against his feathered back, the hybrid slithered between the trees, tactfully avoiding the large patches of ash that dotted the earth in this particular area. A large fire had been here, and it had reduced many of the trees to burnt sticks. Fire brought renewal, though, and the fact that green plants were poking up amongst some of the ash gave him hope that his favorite hunting grounds would be back to normal soon.

Something moved in the corner of his vision, and the hybrid turned, nostrils flaring as he scented the air. He smelled food.... and a food-eater, which made him stifle a sigh as he slithered toward whatever the food was that was on the move. He so was not in the mood to compete for his lunch right now.

Slowly, Bastet crept towards the buck, moving a bit so that she was more upwind of the creature. She'll have to give chase fairly soon since it was nearly impossible for her to fully sneak up on the deer, but she had to try and get as close as she could before doing such a thing.

Though, as she moved on closer, she picked up on the scent of another in the area. Frowning at the thought of the possibility of two hunters for one prey animal in the same area, she grumbled lowly to herself since she too didn't want to compete for food now.

With a bit of thinking, she began to wonder who was closer to the deer at this point. Either way, she knew she needed to be quick, and she knew she would probably have to use some of her magic to aid her with this particular catch. Having her food slightly charred was no big deal to her anyway. So, keeping the hoofed animal within her sight, she quickly began to charge for it, preparing to launch a fiery attack onto it.

Thrynor, hoping to keep the buck within scent range, stayed downwind. It would keep the deer from getting his scent and fleeing, so he continued on his present path, slithering as quietly as he could manage across the forest floor. The ash clung to his feathers, which muted out his coloring a tad. He'd need a bath later, but food came first, as always.

He slithered faster, not wanting to be outdone in this race for the prey. He was hungry and was not about to let some female-

Female?!

His nostrils flared as he recognized that the other hunter on the prowl was, indeed, a female and one of his own kind. He grumbled quietly and slithered forward, catching a brief glimpse of something red between the burnt-out trees. Fire wyrm. Perfect.

The deer now began to sprint off, when the two larger creatures began to run after it. Being what it was, the buck was quite nimble. But there was quite a bit of doubt as to whether it was swift enough to outrun two wyrms.

Just in case that was how things were, Bastet picked up speed while opening her mouth slightly where flames began to slowly flow out of. She was getting ready to launch her attack, and before much more time went by, the fire and wind wyrm spat out a cone of flames at the buck, hoping to at least injure it enough to deliver a killing blow.

With this, the buck's rear end soon became severely burned, causing the prey animal to slow down painfully. It was just a matter of time before either of the wyrms came to claim its life.

Thrynor, being at a disadvantage as he was forced to slither, could not pick up as much speed as his opponent could. The hybrid was annoyed by this, but he deduced that he could likely talk his opponent out of at least a portion of the kill. He was a master of persuasion, after all. He navigated through the trees, getting just enough of a view of the flaming attack on the buck.

Yes, his competition was a fire wyrm and a female, and that made his life all that much more difficult. The flames did hamper the buck's movement, though, and Thrynor's keen sense of smell picked up the scent of burnt flesh. Mmm... roasted deer. A delicacy, indeed.

He tucked his wings in close and slithered more quickly through the trees, trying to keep a safe distance from the female whilst still getting within reach of the buck. If he could just get within snapping distance, he'd have it made, and he snapped his jaws once, loudly, in an attempt to frighten both competitor and prey.
