BASIC INFORMATION / DISCLAIMER:

Here will be listed and described in historical, religious, and other relevant contexts various symbols both common and uncommon. The meanings of many WILL surprise you. Signs you may have thought were good are bad, and vice versa.

My qualifications:
I have done a massive amount of research on the subject; including reading of numerous books, watching over fifty historical documentaries, Cross-referencing of data and analyzing patterns of similarity that cross religious and cultural barriers to some very shocking conclusions. That said, I do NOT know everything about symbols, and learn even more information all the time. If you feel that there is a discrepancy or other error in my presented work, please private message me so I can explain my findings in greater detail, or correct a mistake. post here for general discussions on the symbols.

An overview:
In the second post, there is a list of every symbol I will address in this tutorial. Each symbol will have it's name, some basic data, and a reference number I have assigned to it. I will use the reference numbers to more easily refer to the different symbols.
In the third post I will discuss the so-called "light" symbols.
In the fourth post I will discuss the so-called "dark" symbols. I will explain why I have categorized them so.
In the fifth post I will discuss unusual variances in symbols, such as a shifting meaning through the centuries, or eerie similarities in both design and meaning of symbols that are supposedly unrelated.

Catholic:

The Rosary. A strong Catholic symbol, and the crusifix at the end of the chain is also a dominating Catholic symbol. Used to represent salvation. Also used heavily in prayer and in religious ceremonies such as baptism and exorcisms. Used since the beginning of the organized catholic church.

The trinity symbol. Has two forms. Represents God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as one God. Also called the Trinity knot. It is used to represent the power of three in the tv series 'Charmed'. Bishop Theophile of Antioch, who died in 186 A.D. was the first to use this symbol.

Protestant:

The basic cross has been a core symbol of the protestant church since the reform. It symbolizes how our sins have been erased. The upside-down cross, also known as St. Peter's cross has been a Christian symbol for just as long. It's orientation is because Saint Peter was crucified upside-down. It is also used as a satanic symbol, because that religion tends to reverse Christian symbolism. Another parallel is the burning cross (white power groups) vs the cross and flame (United Methodist church) In the case of the church, the flame represents the Holy Spirit.

Do you need help on this section? I don't mind contributing to some of it that is. But like for example the Nazi symbol is a symbol of peace used by Buddhist and Hindus world over, I would always like to add those so that people aren't quick to judge.

why thank you for the offer!! I just haven't had the time to sit down and pull this one together! I am aware of the little known meanings of symbols like the swastika (inverted is evil, regular is peace) and will be adding those. If you have the free time (I know this is a bigger project) I would love to have your help in this. I can quote your pms above, if you want to work on one of the main areas.... just let me know, so we can get it properly set up and looking nice.
