The common dandelion; the bane of gardeners; yet its leaves can be used in salads or for making dandelion wine.
It is a weed that aspires to be aflower, yet, in the mind of most children, it is a flower. Their most favorite flower, whose yellow petals, when placed under a chin, can tell if a person likes butter.
The first flowers collected by children to give to their parents or grandparents as a special bouquet.
A yellow flower that can be woven into a crown or bracelet, by tying its straw-like stems together in a chain.
And when that flower goes to seed. . . .magic! The yellow flower turns into a white puff ball of seeds.
A wish granter.
A dream maker.
When lightly blown upon or spun around, sends the seed into flight, thinking of tiny parachutes. . . .or of faeries in flight. . . .the seeds gently drift in the wind, until they come to rest in some forgotten spot. Until next Spring, when the little weed-who-would-be-a-flower, pops its head out, for the next child to discover its beauty. . . .
