Hey guys and gals, drew this up as an idea of what i want my half sleeve to look like. this only takes up the front of the arm however, so i still need to work on something for the back, anyone have any recommendations? i want to keep with the same traditional japanese genre.

Looking at the design you already have, just continue the waves and clouds around the back. A samurai, although cool, would not go well with what you already have. He will look tacked-on, like an afterthought. It will also look cluttered. You want what's on the outside to be the focus, and the rest is just background. Also, contemplate the shape of your arm, and work with the natural way the muscles flow and move. Cap off the shoulder with a rounded top to the design, even if it will be added to later, so it won't look chopped off. Japanese designs are very big on using the shapes of the body to emphasize the tattoo, and can almost make it look 3D.
