Personality: Rowan was an inquisitive creature before he saw his entire herd murdered by the Katilenuck. He still holds a shred of his inquisitive nature, but not much. He isn't the most intelligent nequus, but he tries very hard to improve his knowledge. He is eager to please his master to avoid more punishments, though he has a powerful desire to escape his life of servitude to return to his rightful home in the valley of D'ob. For now, though, his purpose is to serve the patriarch Mavasu and to sustain a minimal amount of damage so he can form a successful escape plan.

Location: Fyhi tel Oren, and it's likely he won't be leaving for a long, long time.

Rowan's Tree is located in the Southwestern Quadrant

I am enclosing a report solely about your new slave's physical and mental characteristics, so that you will be able to better understand how your slave's mind works. Whether this is relevant to you or not I do not know, but I felt it important to include nonetheless.

I made a special trip with him to his tree, for I feel that one can discover many things about a creature solely from its tree. It is tall for one so young, covered in patches of red, white, and pink. Its branches are gnarled, and its leaves hold a reddish pink tint to them all year long, except in winter where they change to white, or so he told me. Overall it seems a proud tree, a contrast indeed to his docile and timid personality.

I have put him to several tests already to better assess his overall statistics. He seems to be quite brave apart from his role as a slave, and he's a bit above average for his power with dealing blows, or for sudden bursts of energy. His ability to lift, push, or pull things for extended periods seems to be hone of his strongest points. He is by far not the brightest Nequus when it comes to knowledge, but he does have a bit more common sense, and he seems very eager to learn as much as possible for a slave. His speed is nearly unmatched with other foals, Katilenuck or slave, as is his stamina; these two are his best features. It seems to me that he could perform longer distance tasks for you, such as fetching fruit from the orchards. He occasionally stumbles; his grace only seems to be a touch above average. He also told me he doesn't adapt that well with new conditions, which would explain for his poor transition from freedom to the life of a slave. He explained his herd always stayed in the valley of D'ob, for many of their kind did not adapt well to change. It seems to me that he does adapt fairly well, though he may not think so; his adaptability seems a bit above average.

I learned from others in our grand herd that it is best to keep a description handy, in case a slave goes missing, so that others will know what to look for. I took the liberty of enclosing one for you to save you the trouble of creating one yourself, or having to think of one.
Breed: Aeri
Role: Slave
Master: Mavasu, the Patriarch
Name: Rowan
Colors: His mane and tail, as well as the top of his face, neck, and back are a bright, blood red. His chin, lower cheeks, the very bottom of his neck, his underbelly, and his legs are a pure white. The fingers on his wings are white as well, though the membrane is a pale pink. A stripe of the same color runs all around his body, separating the red and white. His hooves are a dark gray, and his eyes a bright green.
Notes: Only Mavasu is allowed to punish or hit him. Anyone else found to have done so will be punished themselves.

A final note, my Lord: Though he is but a young foal, he is very tall. He might grow to be taller than you when he is a full adult. There is nothing anyone can do about such a thing, so I advise you to keep him in line either with trust or with fear, so that he may not do anything rash later. Though he is just one slave, those of the Aeri race are built as warriors, and he could probably take down four to five of our herd before he is quelled. This is not to say that he is certain to rebel in the future, I am merely saying a word of caution. If he accepts his role without question or complaint, verbal or otherwise, he will not be likely to present any problems to you, my Lord, whatever his height may be.

Relationships are vital to the life of any creature, including slaves, so I felt it all the more necessary to include a list of others your slave has met, along with his thoughts on said acquaintances.

Mavasu:
Herd: Katilenuck
Breed: Jala
Rank: Patriarch
Relationship to slave: Master
Meetings: [One] [Two]
Thoughts:
"Mavasu? Well, I... I don't really like him, but how could I? I try to do my best to please him but nothing's ever good enough for him, it seems like my best just makes him hate me more.. I don't like being property..."

Valerius:
Herd: Katilenuck
Breed: Jala
Rank: Soldier
Relationship to slave: Observer
Meetings: [One]
Thoughts:
"You want me to tell you what I think of you? Well, that's a bit odd, but okay. You seem nice enough; you don't hit me at all, though that could be because Mavasu told you not to, he likes to do that himself... You're still just here to watch me, though, and to teach me things because Mavasu doesn't have the patience for it, I don't think we're really friends like you say we are."

More to be added.

I managed to find the spy that watched the herd of Aeri the day your slave was captured and his herd disposed of, and I asked him to tell me everything that occurred that day, starting with the behavior of your slave before the attack. This is what he had to say:

The bright sun shone upon the valley as it made its slow ascent into the heavens, flooding it in the early morning light. The small herd of Aeri was still asleep, save for one. One young, little colt of white, pink, and red. He pranced about in the dew-covered grass, chasing after a little butterfly that had fluttered past his nose. "Come back, little butterfly!" He called out to it as he followed after it, ears perked. Foals had such innocence.

There had been a strange Jala around the herd a few days prior when they had settled close to the red mountains, but the leader of the herd had given him a swift kick in the rear and chased him off. He had yelled threats of violence as he retreated, but the herd ignored the threats and labeled them as merely bluffs. What could a little Jala do to the entire herd of Aeri? The young colt had heard the elders of the herd complain to the leader, saying they should be weary of the great herd of Jala that lived on the mountain, but the herd leader had dismissed their advice, telling them they worried too much over little problems. And such a little problem it proved not to be.

The little aeri colt paused, allowing the butterfly to flutter away. Who is that? He wondered silently, cocking his head slightly as he watched a few specks floating in the air far away. Someone was flying closer, and there certainly were a lot of someones. Lowering his gaze, he noticed more someones on the ground. With a bright smile he pranced over to the sleeping herd, and after ferreting out his mother he nosed her awake, pressing his soft muzzle repeatedly into her side. "Mother! Mother, wake up! Lots of nequus are coming to play!"

"Mnn.. Rowan, why must you wake up so early?" His mother asked as she smiled down at the playful little colt. She paused, however, when she thought about what he'd said. Lots of nequus? Breathless, she turned her gaze towards the red mountains. The small specks Rowan had seen were closer now, and were clearly Jala by their feathered wings. Immediately bursting into a panic, the mare reared and bolted into the group of Aeri. There was only one reason why a large group of Jala would be heading towards their herd. "Wake up, wake up everyone! We're under attack!"

Rowan tilted his head to the side, curious as to his mother's behavior. Attack? He looked at the group of Jala that were coming closer, then he trotted after his mother. "Mother, what's going on?"

"Hide!" She shrieked, dashing over to the little colt and nosing him away from the herd. "Go hide and don't come out until the Jala all go away!"

"But why?" He asked, confused and afraid. What was going on? However, before his mother could respond, the shrieks and screams of other Aeri mixed in with loud hoofbeats that the little colt could feel beneath him. He turned and fled, running from the herd as fast as his little legs could take him. Several moments later, however, he heard something that haunted his dreams for a long time. It was the loud shriek of a mare in pain; loud, filled with pain and fear, and then just as suddenly as it sounded, it silenced. The Jala had overtaken the panicked herd and were attacking them left and right. The wonderfully organized army swiftly and skillfully set to work destroying the enemy that had penetrated their boundaries and injured one of their own. That, apparently, was not to be tolerated. The poor little colt witnessed the members of his herd being struck down, blood from their wounds pouring onto the sweet grass they had all grazed on only yesterday. The air was filled with the sounds of shouts, screams, shrieks, and sobs. Eyes rolling and ears pinned, many members of the Aeri herd attempted to bolt and flee the war the Jala insisted on having, but were attacked, usually, by three or four members of the brindled race.

In a state of panic himself at the sights and sounds, the little colt bolted underneath the cover of a nearby bush, hoping, praying, that he would not be found. He closed his eyes tightly, not wanting to watch or hear the death and destruction happening right in front of his young eyes.

Some of the braver Aeri took to the skies to attempt to fight off the Jala there, but they had less of a chance there than on the ground. Each was quickly overtaken and stricken down, falling to his or her death on the ground they should never have left. The herd leader was in a state of absolute panic. His herd was being swiftly cut down, and within just minutes less than a quarter of the herd was left. Abandoning his herd, he took to the skies to try to escape the onslaught, but was attacked by a large brindled bay with a black mane. With a shriek of terror, the once proud leader of the Aeri herd tumbled downward through the air, straining in vain to right himself and fly off. If he had only a few more precious moments to fall, he may have saved his hide, but he landed on his head and neck on the grass, and never raised either again. The loud THUD right in front of the bush Rowan was hiding under caused him to jump and stare out at the herd leader he had once respected. Terrified, the poor young colt bolted from the bush, tripped, fell, and rolled across the ground a few feet before raising himself and bolting in a fresh direction. However, before he could get very far, the sound of flapping wings met his ears and a set of strong teeth gripped him by the crest. With a loud, fearful whinny he struggled in vain to free himself from his captor before being thrown to the ground. "Lookit! 'ey! Lookit what I found!" The brindled stallion called, his forehooves covered in blood. "I found a little 'un!" Poor little Rowan staggered to his feet, his small ears pinned back against his head, and he backed up to no where in particular. A nose pushed his side, another prodded his rear, another his neck, leading him back towards the heart of the devastation. He froze when they reached the middle, his eyes wide as he stared out at the area. Bodies littered the ground. All Aeri, none Jala. He recognized each and ever member of the herd he'd once known, their bodies spattered in blood. The bodies of the Jalas were similarly splattered, but save a few minor wounds none were seriously injured or killed. Such is the consequence of battle strategies and planning. He noted that, although he could recognize all the Aeri that were dead, there were some missing, and they were no where to be seen. They must have been lucky enough to escape, which was more than he could say for himself. Ears still pinned back, his wings held tightly against his sides, he cowered as the brindled stallions crowded round him, talking about what to do with their little prisoner. They suddenly hushed and parted, and the same brindled bay that had struck down the herd leader now faced the little pipsqueak Aeri.

"What shall we do with him, my Lord?" Asked one of the brindled soldiers.

"Give him to the slave trader, you should know that by now," he said, sneering down at the little colt as he looked him over. "Disgusting filth.." He muttered, turning and walking away.

The bright green eyes of the little tricolored colt darted from Jala to Jala as they began following the patriarch, until his eyes riveted themselves upon one of the dead bodies. Mother. One of the Jala sensed he was about to bolt, so he gripped the little colt by the crest once more and tossed him a few feet ahead. "Get going, you. You've a long walk ahead of you." The poor little colt, frightened and shaking, followed along after the soldiers. Some in front, some behind, and some on the sides, preventing any chance of escape. Not that he could outrun any of them, anyway, he thought solemnly. His head drooped, his ears twitched every so often, and he obediently followed the Katilenuck. Why even bother trying to escape now? It wouldn't do him any good, he'd only be hurt further. Up ahead, his emerald eyes lighted upon a brindled purple Jala who seemed to be sneering at him. The stallion pranced over, extending a wing to cover the poor little colt as Rowan looked up at him. "Don't you fret, poor little thing. You'll soon be to your new home," he said with a devilish grin. "You will serve whoever you are sold to without question, and you will be an obedient little servant, and we may let you continue to live with us."

"Trader!" Called the brindled bay once more, trotting over to him. "Come, let's talk business." The purple stallion trotted after the patriarch, a delighted grin on his face. A heavy sigh escaped the little colt as a soldier nosed him onwards. He looked up as the red mountain loomed over him, and he glanced over to see the brindled bay take to the skies and fly up past the army and onto the cliffs. The purple stallion swiftly returned to Rowan's side and smirked down at him.

"You should consider yourself lucky. You are being sold to the patriarch, Mavasu, to serve him and his mate, the Queen. You will serve them with your best manners and attitude, or you will share the same fate as the rest of your disgusting herd," he sneered, before pushing the little colt along towards the mountain path. Poor little Rowan's head drooped once more as he resigned himself to his future of servitude. He didn't want to suffer the same fate as his poor mother and friends, and the thought of being swiftly kicked and beaten to death didn't appeal to him. The thought made him physically shiver, and a soldier nosed his rear-end to make him hurry up. As he began the ascent to the top of the cliffs, Rowan found the nose of the slave trader in his face. "You will behave yourself from now on, and you will be a good slave to the patriarch and the Queen. You will be good, won't you?" The little colt shivered and nodded, ears still pinned back, staring into the sneering face of the trader. He knew it wasn't a question, more of a command, and he nodded once more.

"Yes," said the little colt in a small voice, his eyes staring solemnly at the path in front of him. "I'll be good..."

From this point on, only daily reports on your slave will be present. Here I will record where he goes, what he does, who he meets, and anything else worth reporting. I assume these will be more interesting to you than anything I have laid down previous to this, as these will dictate to you his behavior, and will allow you to decide whether he should be punished for whatever actions he has done. Here I will also record the tasks he receives from you or from myself (and I assure you they are small, to help me give you better reports on how well he performs his assigned duties), and how well he performs them. Also I will include anything he does wrong or badly in full detail, especially if he misbehaves, so you may give punishment as you deem necessary.

Before I begin with current, daily reports, your slave has asked me to record certain dates so that he does not forget them nor what happened on said dates.

Arrival
Your slave arrived in our herdlands, as you well know, far back in early spring, during the time the two-legs call 'April.' His herd was destroyed (as told in full two sections prior to this), and he was the only foal captured. There were possibly more, but they appear to have fled with their parents. They lived to learn from their mistakes of messing with the Katilenuck.

Since then he has seen docile, timid, resigned to his fate and role as slave. I hear he did rather well during training.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 20, 2007 7:43 pm

Another requested back report.

Bought
After he and the other new slaves finished their rigorous training, they were each sold to their new, respective owners in the month dubbed 'May' by two-leggers. From what he has told me, your slave didn't communicate much with the other slaves, and he especially avoided the one who was disobedient. It seems he went through all his training as best as he could, trying to be as well-behaved and obedient as possible, unlike the other Aeri. It is good to know none of his disobedience rubbed off onto your slave.

It came as no surprise to him, however, when you came to claim him; it was only natural that you did so, as you spoke to the trader about him before he even arrived at the herdlands. Even though it wasn't a surprise, that apparently did not make it welcome. He tells me he does not like you much, though he has resigned himself to serving you to the best of his ability.

And now, current reports.

First Day Out
It seems he has learned much in the two months since you bought him in early spring. Summer is now taking charge, and already your slave has grown and learned much. He knows all his duties by heart, and he now knows all that you expect of him. I am honored that you have chosen me to observe your slave, and to teach him when you don't have the time to.

He has learned from you that he must not speak too much, and only when spoken to. He told me he knew he was only to speak when spoken to, but he was never told how much he should speak, and he is grateful that you enlightened him without punishment.

Things he learned: The less words, the better.
Punishments: Stand upright for three days; no laying down, sitting, or resting at all.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:05 pm

Standing Tall
It is now dawn of the fourth day of your slave's punishment, and I am happy to report that he has obeyed your instructions to the letter. I watched him, along with several other herdmembers I trust should he have wandered out of my sight for even a moment so that I might know what he was up to, and he did not even think of doing anything other than standing. He bore his burden without complaint, though after I told him his punishment was over and that he could rest for just a few moments, he plopped right down onto the dust with a sigh and had this to say:

"Whew, I'm right glad that's over. I was getting really tired, but I wasn't about to disobey my Master's orders for a little rest. Though, I wouldn't dare flop down to rest in front of Mavasu, he thinks I'm weak enough as it is. I wouldn't talk to him, either, he doesn't like it when I talk. Does he like it when you talk, Valerius?"

You see, m'Lord, I think you have outdone yourself with your choice of a slave. He seems quite content with following orders, doing everything he can to be obedient, and doing so without complaint. It seems he knows better than to complain or comment to you, though I do not know how well you will take him commenting on such things to others. But, I have given you my word to report everything your slave does, so this is no different.

Also, m'Lord, I think I will take him for a short journey to Shrilal soon so that I may visit his tree with him. You'd be surprised what you can learn about a Nequus from studying his tree, and I don't think anyone will fully understand your slave until they study his. It will only be a short journey, however, and I will of course need your permission first.

Things he learned: Nothing worth noting.
Punishments: Having cleared his three-day standing punishment, he no longer has any current punishments unless you so choose to give him one.

Lesson One
As you have allowed me, my Lord, I have begun to teach your slave how to fly. I feel that the skill is useful even for slaves, and it may allow him to better serve you.

As it was his first lesson, he cannot fly just yet. With practice and more lessons, he will be able to fly in no time at all. He is only able to float a bit off the ground at the moment, but he is catching on very quickly and he is very eager to learn how to fly.

"I get to learn how to fly? Wow! I didn't know slaves were allowed to fly! Thank you, Valerius! I'll be able to serve my master better if I can fly! I don't really know how, but now he can send me to do tasks that I need to fly for, I suppose. It'll make me feel more useful, I think."

As you can see, he seems very eager to learn so that he can please you, m'Lord. Many herdmembers will envy you for your choice of a slave, as not all of them are so loyal nor eager to please. I will continue his lessons later, to give his wings a rest. Too much work with no rest could result in an injury, and I suspect you do not wish any injury to your slave unless it is punishment.

Things he learned: How to float a few inches above the ground.
Punishments: None
PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:48 am

Lesson Two
Good day, m'Lord. I have continued your slave's flying lessons, and he is learning very quickly. He seems to have a bit of previous experience, though, which is all the more beneficial to you, as it means he will learn more quickly.

"Yeah, my mom gave me a couple tips and I practiced a bit with her, though that was before I came here."

After that he was less willing to talk. But, I am happy to tell you he is progressing very rapidly. His wings are better equipped for flying than some other breeds, though not nearly as well as our kind. Better than the Ichsa or Bae, at any rate.

Things he learned: How to fly short distances a few feet off the ground.
Punishments: None
