I'm going to watch movies with somebody who has barely even heard of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (for shame! =o), so I'm wondering, which episodes do you think make a good introduction the series, pref. ones out on DVD?
I'm leaning towards stuff like The Giant Spider Invasion and Phantom Planet.

well, Phantom planet is a really good one...but i'm leaning towards the Herc movies. my favorite is Hercules Unchained.
of course, you know my all time favorite episode is Manos, but that's waaaaaaaaay too much crappiness for a first timer. xd

somehow i missed the herc movies when i looked at the poll answers... you really cant go wrong with the herc series, but the giant spider and phantom planets are good choices as well

Go with whatever genre the person is most familiar with...chances are if they hate, oh, say, scifi to begin with, they will not like a scifi movie that is being heckled either.

I'd suggest showing your friends the Herc Movies first...or Cave Dwellers was a good riff in my opinion, and definetely a decent episode for first-timers.
If you don't wanna show them a fantasy movie as their first, go with Mitchell or Sidehackers.
I got into MST3K myself when I saw MST3K The Movie, so if you have a copy of that, you may wanna consider that one as a first.

my first was cave dwellers and that hooked me right away. but i tried showing some others to friends and they weren't too receptive until we watched space mutiny. they thought that one was hilarious. mitchell and pod people might be good ones

The first episode I ever saw was 'Time of the Apes'. I was a teenager then. My mom was yelling at me to turn it off because she thought it looked stupid and she wanted to watch something else. But I was determined to check it out. Before I knew what happened, my mother was busting up laughing at the show. To this day 'Time of the Apes' is still her favorite episode and she watches it whenever she can. It was a good intro to MST3K.

What an awesome story. ^_______^
Just think, in a paralell universe, you may have listened to your mom, and never gotten a chance to see MST3K. =o
