I think though it's to keep the economy in order.

The gaian economy has been getting more and more ******** up with all of the free gold they hand out.

You could put it this way. Presenting two faces of the coin.

GAIAN COMMUNITY
Placing taxes (while removing the 1k gold requirement for vending) will eventually haunt us even if we are not selling items in the marketplace.

Items would be more expensive, making it a lot more difficult to collate G's. And who says that gold is free here in Gaia? You still have to post and surf and all. You would still be working for it.

If for example you have an item that currently sells at 15000g. That 15000g would take you maybe a week of constant typing, burning your eyes till dawn (it can be shorter - depends on your Gaia activities).

2% of 15000 = 300. That's 300g more. If I'm not patient enough, I might throw my pc out dejectedly thinking that I can already wear that item.

GAIAN MODS
A lot of Gaians are selling in, and abusing the marketplace flooding our much needed server spaces. Without that necessary space, we can't give them the quality service due them. Without that much needed space, we won't be able to effectively present more interesting changes in the site. Plus, with the servers reaching its capacity, maintenance costs would surely rise! 2% won't hurt much right? That 2% will not really be much effect. Plus, it would hopefully discourage the abuse of the marketplace.

Just charge more so the 2% tax doesn't hurt. 3nodding

Well, that would be the only way to fix the dent that the 2% would give to the sellers. But how about the buyers? Using the above mentioned amount, in order to "balance" the 2% item tax, the 15000g would now be selling for 15300g. The 300g might be a small amount, but it would still hurt.

It took me over 30 pages in the site feedback forum before I understood the benefit of the 2% tax. It's purpose is to take money out of the system. There are already some gold sinks, but not nearly enough.

Current gold sinks I can think of:
-Salon
-Avatar Competition Posting Price
-Guilds
-Name Changing

Now let's look at the math.

Let's say you want to sell something for 50,000 g.

50,000g x .02 = 1000 g
Your money would be 49,000g

Now, let's say you are going to be smart, and intuit this price, so the price magically becomes 51,000g instead of 50,000g.

51,000 x .02 = 1020 g.
Your money would be 49980 g

The end result is that they are going to intuit that people will charge more thinking they are not hurting their profit near as much, but it could potentially eat into it. My example doesn't show this, but certain people who can't do math will end up with a lesser profit after they hike up the price.

Couple this with the fact that the new Marketplace will allow more transactions than the last one and the gold should be slowly depleted from the system in a fairly expeditious rate.

Expect the MP prices to rise and slowly dip. smile

The marketplace will never dip.

I am in control of the illuminati at the moment.
