So I know we've all run screaming from fandoms under attack by n00bs. The presence of stupid people is nothing new. We've all been there. And it's a scary, scary place.
But there are other scary types in fandoms. Like elitists. The type who are fandom Nazis. The type who make us all quake in fear. The type who make us feel inferior before we've said a word. Our arguments fall short before them, our fanworks seem inadequate. They are the closest thing to the creator of the fandom- or at least that's what they want us to think.
These very types almost kept me out of a fandom completely. sad

So Freefall, has this ever happened to you?

Yes.

WAY more often than I'd like.

What's worse are sporkers -- people who hunt down fanfics/fanart that even has a hint of a Mary Sue [among other things] and maliciously attack it, without even giving the author any good advice on how to improve. One friend of mine is a sporker, however, she only sporks those that have laughably bad fiction...but most others? The art can be as awesome as can be, or story incredibly well written, but if they don't like it? Prepare to feek like s@!t.

They're basically flamers, but just with a different name.

But yes. Elitists suck. Especially sub elitists, who bash all dubs without even giving them a chance. There's a difference between preference and all out bashing, you know.

One thing I noice is while n00bs CAN be annoying...they're WAY nicer than ANY elitist could ever be.

I've never been attacked by an elitist, but I've seen them in fandoms, and so I'm less likely to take part in discussion concerning that fandom.

I remember when people reffered to someone as "elite", that meant they had superior grammar/writting skills ;.; OH, HOW FAR HAVE WE FALLEN?

Although I think its really stupid to post a Fanfic with a Mary Sue in it (no offense to those of you that do...Wait, o-o why would you post something with a sue in it?). I must admit, it hits somewhar in me hard when I read some weird EdxObviously marry Sue fic. I usually stop on the first sentence.

Fanart seems better Mary-sue wise for me, though o-o I don't know, its like... You only waste a split second of your life looking at a picture rather than a fic.

Of course,
it's happened to everybody.
But I think it's all pretty damn funny because
...ya know...
it's just cartoons.
