Am I the only one in this guild who doesn't hate him?

Seems like a lot of Beatles fans dislike him. I dunno why...I think he's pretty cool. Weird, definately, macabre, of course, but very talented. I've only listened to a couple of his albums - they weren't bad - but I really like the other stuff he's done. His art is amazing. The music he helped with for American McGee's Alice is amazing. And his girlfriend is awesome - she plays Lucy in the upcoming Across the Universe movie! (Evan Rachel Wood)

I think most people are just scared off by him. I know he's weird - but he tries to be. His goal is to weird people out. I suspect he might have what I call 'Cheshire Cat Syndrome' - where crazy is a form of shyness, and you use it as a form of defense to scare people off. It's what I have, and I still consider myself comparitively sane beneath the surface. If there is such a thing.

Anyhoo, I like what he does. He seeks to offend, to challenge your sensibilities. I approve. razz

I actually kinda like him, honestly. He's a fantastic lyricist and a brilliant showman, I've just never had the dedication to be a Mansonite. Though another one of my Beatlefriends went to go see him in Illinois about a week and a half ago and I was VERY jealous.

Personally, I can make a lot of correlations between him and the Beatles (nobody shoot, hear me out!). He's got an extremely loyal fanbase, he's endured scathing rumors, and he's got that super-star quality mythos about him that will make him a classic for future generations.

I can totally get behind this "Cheshire Cat Syndrome" of yours, too. He weirds a lot of people out, so he only has to be around the people who are okay with that kind of thing and accept him for who he is. It's a safety mechanism I've employed quite often. 3nodding

I was a big fan of him when I was in high school. I still listen to him at times.

He seems to be relying on his image a little too much nowadays, His last album.... Well it sure as hell could have been better. Same goes for The Golden Age of Grotesque, I didn't like that too much. Maybe his new one will be a little better now that Jeordie White is back in the band.

However, His older stuff is just great, I love Portrait of an American Family for it's sincere shock value, And I still believe Wrapped in Plastic is the best song he's written. Antichrist Superstar also, And Mechanical Animals are great. Things seemed better when Trent Reznor produced his albums. ('Cept for Mechanical Animals, Which is is probably his best non-Trent-produced album, But this is just my opinion).

Anyone read his biography? I think it might be a bit biased but it's still great.

He sort of creeps me out but I'm sure when people see me in public, they probably think "Ew, she must listen to that goth crap." so I must defend.

I love his ex wife, Dita Von Teese.

Honestly.. How can you not..?

And I love, Evan Rachel Wood.. I'm sure I've said this before. Even though she's now trying to look like Dita.

Okay, so back to him. I've never really liked his music, and his videos usually creep me out. But he does it all on purpose, and obviously we're letting him get exactly what he wants by being creeped out by him.

[I really just posted here just so I could look up pictures of Dita. Sorry.]
