Well, I was talking to my dad about the Gaian economy (he is a marketer), and he agrees that the 2% tax is horribly detrimental to sellers. So, after I told him about the excess of gold in Gaia's economy, he proposed an idea that I thought was too ingenious to not share with Gaia. He came up with the idea of a lottery, of perhaps 1 million Gaia gold. It would cost around 100g to buy a chance for the lottery, and you could buy only one chance a day. Considering the number of Gaians on daily, and the allure of the prospect of 1 million gold, I think that the gold that would leave the economy through the purchase of tickets would be an excellent gold sink that would effectively curb inflation.

That's not how a lottery works.
A lottery works like this.
1 million people buy a ticket at ten gold each.
The lottery produces 10 million in gold.
The 10 million is then redistributed to the winners.
Gold will only stay in the system.

I'm saying that the administrators would just get the gold from nowhere. Even though they're inputting gold back into the economy, the amount of gold leaving the economy through everyone buying chances would add up to much more than 1 million gold.

No, lottos require people to buy a ticket. Also random giving out large amounts of gold to people doesn't help deflate prices it helps inflation of prices.

I understand the lotto idea working if 5 million is taken away completely and only 5 million is redistributed, but then Gaians wouldn't like that...

What you're suggesting here, is to take a little bit of Gaian gold, save it in one place for awhile until winners are decided then redistribute it out when users have gained even more gold.

I don't think people are understanding me sweatdrop .

The lottery that I'm proposing is basically a gold sink. For example, what if 60,000 users on Gaia each bought two chances for 100 gold each. The gold used to purchase these chances disappears, goes into the void. (In this case, this amounts to 14 million gold). Then one lucky winner wins 1 million gold.

Thus, gold is removed from the economy, and the problem of inflation is somewhat ameliorated.

You mean the same basic concept of the avvie arena then? In that case I'm understanding. 3nodding

Yes exactly, we need something like this to compensate for the tax. We need a much better compromise than to just buy more donation items (which seem to be the message the admins are unfortunately gicing).

On a much, much larger scale, and with no input but perhaps 100g a chance. Not everyone feels like putting in the effort to dress up their avvie and write a backstory or something. With the lottery, they can just click a button and be done with it.

Exactly! With the 2% tax, the quickest, fastest, and most efficient way to earn gold is to shell out real life money to buy monthly collectibles. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad thing, and helps Gaia out immensely: its just that not all of us can come up with the money stare .

Yes, I know! It would be a shame if Gaia developed into a "benefit payers first" site.

Hmm, maybe not 100g a chance, or with limited chances, or, even better, chances improve with amount of posts/time/activity on Gaia, or even a rating from other players.

Hmm...don't know about the whole "chances improving thing". The main point is to take gold out of the economy...therefore, I think the 100g (or so) a chance would be pretty essential.

Yes, I know, but this way, Hard workers would be promoted over people paying the site; which a lot of people like; and beleive gaia to be like.
