Clothing:
Yuuha's not much for changing her uniform any. So, she's in the traditional Academy dress. For women, it's a standard white kimono with red stripes vertically on the sleeves and a red underkimono to keep it clean. There's an imprint of the academy symbol in black on both sides in the front. Her red hakama just covers her white tabi socks and straw sandals.
As her sightless eyes make some uneasy, she wears a simple blindfold of white cloth when she's out and about the school grounds. Around her neck is a long strand of what appear to be Buddhist prayer beads made out of greenish blue stone.

Physical Description:
A childhood and young adulthood of deprivation have stunted Yuuha's growth somewhat. She's not very tall, standing around five feet in heigh, and she's thin. Her skin is a little pale from not seeing much sun, but traces of windburn have given a flush to her cheeks. Her waist-length long hair is worn simply, tied back a scarf or a piece of ribbon.
During the rare times they're seen, this student's eyes are milky gray and sightless. In spite of her handicap, though, Yuuha moves around quite easily. Such is the power of reiatsu control in Soul Society combined with a lifetime of training to adapt to her condition.


Background:
Born in the late Edo to a poor fisherman's family, Hinatsume Yuuha lost her sight at age ten following a raging fever one winter. As her blindness made her unable to work and therefore a drain on the family, Yuuha was taken to the local temple to train to be an itako, a traditional Japanese shaman that was normally blind. She finished her apprenticeship by age thirteen, and was on her own as a medium by fifteen. Unfortunately, there were some that didn't respect her station, and one night, two bandits broke into her meager home to rob it, killing her so she wouldn't raise the alarm.

Though the passage to Soul Society usually restores what was lost to a person in life, Yuuha's sight did not return. However, as she learned to survive in Rukongai, she gradually developed a sensitivity to things and people around her that could not be classified as her just learning where everything was. A passing shinigami recognized that Yuuha's spiritual training on earth had sped up her ability to sense and control reiatsu, and took her to the academy. Naturally, there are students that ask what on earth a blind student can do as a shinigami and laugh at her inability to handle a sword. Her teachers note her gift for Kidou and burgeoning skill with hakuda, and wait to see what she will become.

Personality:
Quiet and sympathetic, Yuuha is a very spiritual person. The reality of Soul Society hasn't totally destroyed the beliefs she grew up with, only expanded them. She is quiet, not saying much unless she has to, drinking in the words of others and storing the knowledge away. She's a little timid, but her reiatsu sensitivity enables her to sense when others approach, so she's not as jumpy as she used to be.
