Everyone has it at one point or another... I would think. So how do you get past it? Do you try and write through it? Or maybe wait it out? Read lots of books and hope for inspiration?

I've had a block for the whole summer x3 either that or laziness. I've had plenty of ideas but I couldn't write it out, so I completely stopped writing for a over two months but now I'm over it and I'm starting to write again. I personally wait out my blocks, and it seems to work for me.

Well, I just got over my own bout of writers block so it would be a good time to discuss it. I did try writing through it, but nothing seemed to go the way I wanted it to. Writers block is different for everyone, and as such I would think that relieving it would take different methods.

Me? I just listened to music, watched movies, read fanfiction; generally anything that I had to think about.

I do the same I ride it out. Writers blocks got it own way of coming at the worng time too. I've been writing this one fic and had everything planned out till I got to the Part where Ron was suppose to be rescued and I totally lost the juice for it at the time now I have a free head and am writing it again witch reminds me I need to get back to it. Writers block annoys me though.

Writer’s block has never been a particular issue for me, mainly because I don’t work one story continuously. Because I have only six or so active stories, I go between them. I do have one I haven’t gotten to in quite a while, but I haven’t particularly felt like working on it. ><

I do both, sometimes I write on something new or else and then sometimes I wait it out and go do something else till I feel like writing.

I'd rather wait to write when I want to write versus making myself write on something.

For me, writer's block is best way to write through. Some of my best fan-fic chapters have come out of the block! I just think of a different way to get where I know the story is going and use it.

Depends how lazy I'm feeling, really. If I'm in a really 'cannot be arsed' mood, I'll go out for a walk, or into town to buy clothes. If I feel more motivated, I'll write something else instead and hope it helps. It's good, because I'm never blocked completely. If I'm not motivated to write one thing, chances are that I'll be more than motivated enough to write something with a completely different plot.

Talking to certain friends can help, too. One of my friends is writing an Artemis Fowl fic, and every time I talk to her I want to write more. I'm not sure why.

Oh, and of course reading is a wonderful aid. I manage to churn out page after page every time I've read a good book.

Same here. I dunno why but reading just...opens my mind or something and somehow forces me to write. stare

Well... the block usually came to me when I am depressed and many things of my life are wrong.

I rest from the current stories and forget everything for a couple of days. Then I make sompeting to get gthe muses happy again.

Music, movies, books, plays, another fanfictions...

I normally get writers block if there's gaps in my ideas for my story (like I know what happens to the character but not thought about how or why lol).

That's also pretty true; I tried to write an original story at a time of high stress in my life and now couldn't imagine finishing it because of that. Kinda sad really because it could of been a good read...

I hate writers block! I'm in the middle of a great chapter then....nothing! Sometimes I try to write something else. But on more then one occasion, that leads to even MORE writers block!

Like many of you already said, reading something helps get the motivational juices flowing, allowing me to barrel past the block.

In terms, writers block is a dam, halting the flow of ideas. Something that helps you over come writers block, can be descibed...as a sledgehammer, or compact drill, or what ever you use to break a huge stone wall.

Oh great...I'm rambling on again...

I can't write through a writers block. I dunno why, I just can't.

I try to read books and then try to write, but then I end up writing in the authors style of the book I read, and then it takes my story elsewhere and then I end up trashing it and I'm back at square one.

If I listen to music, then I feel the need to write a whole new fanfiction about a band based on the genre of music. And then I get stuck with writing that one, and thus, again, I am at square one.

I can't wait it out either, 'cause I'm too impatient :]

So I draw, to ease the strain, and write down little bits of whatever comes outta my head when I draw. It helps O:
