Heya! Been a while since its posted, and Im curious about something my mother told me.
Why is it if you are loud around your food [I was baking choclate muffins *mmm mmm* =P] they go flat and dont cook well?
This may be a dumb question but my mother doesn't seem to know. Useless information I guess.

I'm not so sure about that... Hasn't happened to me, so far as I can tell. I guess it's possible that the vibrations would make holes in it or shake parts open, letting air escape. But I mean, you'd needa do something really loud, or else just shake the oven a lot. o-O

That's just an old myth. Being loud around something that's baking will not make it go flat. Occasionally strong vibrations... like if you're jumping up and down right next to the oven, can cause the air to be released, which will make it go flat. Quick little lesson: Baked goods puff up because of air bubbles, during baking, before the batter has cooked through, the air is just there, trapped in liquid.. a -stong- vibration with make the liquid shift and release some of that trapped air. Talking loudly is most certainly not going to make your muffins fall.
