Ok, here is my shot at a book, that mymate and I are trying to write at the mo. It's called path of worlds, and follows Five people in their struggle against evil. Ok, this is chapter one (havent had chance to do a prologue yet,and for the record, Nilead is pronounced 'NI(as in Night)-LEAD'(as in Leader)
SECTION 1 – New beginnings, new friends
Chapter One – Nilead
This job is too risky. Why I was even assigned to this job, I don’t know, but I had accepted it, just as always.
“Hurry up Nilead. The nest’s centre is just up ahead, and those doors in front of you are closing,” chimed a feminine voice from the device in my ear.
“No need to remind me, I know what I’m getting myself into,” I grunted, as I jumped through the gap in the closing door.
“Well, try not to get yourself killed, we really need the members right now,” the female’s voice replied.
I didn’t reply, I needed the energy and just kept on running as fast as I could.
Another closing door ahead of me. This time I slid under and jumped up, immediately starting to run again.
I looked up at my wristwatch to see how long I had left until the whole nest shut down. Five minutes. Damn. Looks like I was gonna have to do this the hard way.
Two creatures loomed at the end of the corridor. They had the same stance as a wild wolf, covered in hair from head to toe and were baring long, sharp, yellow teeth. Great, just what I need, I thought, hired werewolves. Well, might as well fight ‘em.
Raising my hand in front of me, I felt the rush of fire swell through me and erupt from my hand. It hit both the werewolves and they scattered, giving me an open passage into the central of the nest, where my goals awaited me.
Well, for the most important part of the nest, it wasn’t guarded very well. And the size of it! It could fit at least one football stadium, if they were square instead of rectangular. Prison cells covered the walls on the lower floor, while if you looked up, you saw stairs leading to different floors and smack bang in the middle was the first reason I was here. Rising up into the ceiling was a big stretch of gooey mess – the central nerve which I had to administer the poison to. After my second goal was done.
I saw that all of the cells were empty, except one. That housed one of my ‘colleagues’, Jay. He looked up as I started to open the door to his cell. Took you long enough. A thought popped into my head. How long have I been here for?
“Two weeks, but lets not worry about that now, I still need to administer the poison to the nerve. Oh yeah, here’s your weapon,” I replied to Jay, handing a thin rapier to him. It was strange in the fact that it looked thousands of years old, yet still retained its shine.
He nodded and smiled. I ignored the fact that his canines were very sharp and long for human teeth, turned round and headed up the stairs to the central nerve.
Getting to the top of the stairs, I picked a vial of liquid from a pouch on my belt and undid the lid.
“Ssstay where you are, puny human,” snarled a lizard-like voice from behind me. “Turn around sssslowly.”
I turned around just like the voice said, and looked over to where Jay was standing. He was being held by what looked like a very large crocodile. It had a gun pointed at Jay’s neck and wore clothes that signified him of being higher ranking than the other ten or twenty grunts that now populated the central nest.
“Well now, the notoriousss Nilead, now in my, the King of the Crodes’ grasssp. That’sss a pleasssing thought,” the King of the Crodes cooed.
“Yeah, of course, but you just forgot one thing,” was my answer.
When one’s facing a ‘giant lizard of doom’, one has to remember a few things about them. 1) Most of them are stupid. 2) They can be ferocious and 3) they hate the liquid I was holding in my hands. Mind you, I don’t like it either, since it was very toxic. I think it’s a very complex mix of sodium and some other rather hateful solution.
“What?” he asked, still thinking that he had the upper-hand.
“This.” I dropped the vial of liquid onto the central nerve and ducked as all hell broke loose. I saw Jay suddenly elbow the king in the chest and then bite him in the neck. When he finished, he turned round and leapt for the nearest Crode grunt, pulled out his rapier and continued to dodge the grunt’s bullets, finally decapitating him.
I jumped out from where I was hiding and leapt into a group of grunts, willed up the use of ice, and spun as fast as I could, freezing all of them. That took a lot out of me. Then I heard the self-destruct sequence initiate. T-minus two minutes and counting.
“Oh god, JAY, come on we gotta go!” I shouted to Jay across the room, now devouring one of the weaker grunts.
He looked up and I saw he was covered in blood. He jumped over the few remaining grunts and we both ran to the only door that wasn’t closed.
“Exit right ahead, Nilead,” the voice stated in my ear as we both skidded round the corner. T-minus 1 minute and counting. “Better hurry up”
I tried speeding up, but I had used too much magic fighting those grunts earlier. I saw Jay speed right past, not even breaking a sweat.
“Damn Vampires,” I muttered.
T-minus 30 seconds and counting. Bugger. I willed up the last of my powers and sped up.
T-minus 20 seconds and counting.
Not long now…
T-minus 10 seconds and counting.
Ok, now I’m in trouble.

We finally jumped through the entrance of the crodes’ base and landed head first on only what could be described as crap. I can’t believe the crodes like this sort of thing.
We turned around just in time to see the whole nest blow up in front of us.
“Whew, that was too close. Is it standard procedure to set off the self destruct system or something?” Jay said, sardonically.
“But I love explosions, and I totally kicked a** in there.” I replied nonchalantly.
“Don’t get cocky, too much confidence is ignorance you know,” Jay replied.
“Right, okie-dokie, anyway we best be getting back to base, the others are probably waiting.”
Jay just nodded and we walked back over the hill and back to the outpost.
