~RULES~

If you know me, you know I really hate enforcing formal rules because the word "rules" tends to make people unhappy, and I don't like people when they're unhappy. I think you should all know the rules because you're good little users who read all of the FAQ and TOS of Gaia, right? But it's necessary for us to have and follow rules regarding business exchanges on Gaia, because to most of the Gaia Users really put a lot of time and effort into their accounts. I would hate to see someone feeling bitter about a bad transaction that went down.

RULE 1 |Follow the Gaia TOS|
It is very important for any aspect of Gaia to read the TOS at least once, if not every now and then. The Terms of Service are rules that you told Gaia you read and agreed to follow them when you signed up with Gaia. This agreement indicates that you adhere to these rules during the period of use of Gaia. If this sounds confusing to you, I highly recommend that you read the Gaia Terms and Service. The point of this rule is that we MUST operate within these TOS. Failure to do so could result in a banned account.

RULE 2 |Good Communication|
GOOD COMMUNICATION is important in any type of exchange of goods or services through forums on Gaia. Be clear on what you're selling and how much you're selling it for (or what you're looking to buy and how much you're looking to buy it for). When you format your post for what you're selling or buying, be sure you make your own rules clear (ex. I do not accept PM offers).

RULE 3 |Be Reasonable|
One of the reasons most people shop in forums is so they can get deals on items that are better than deals they could get on items in the Gaia Marketplace. Don't charge rediculous prices on your items and at the same time don't make rediculous offers on items.

RULE 4 |Be Respectful|
Be respectful to eachother. Remember that this is business and if someone refuses your offer, it's implied that it's not because they don't like you, it's because of some other reason. If you feel bitter about a transaction, use your good communication skills to express this to the other party.

RULE 5 |Be Fair|
This is a Guild and everyone in this Guild had to have permission to join, therefore while I don't think that scamming should be an issue, but being scammed and feeling ripped off are two different things.
You will probably feel ripped off if you fall for tricky wording in a post and agree to buying something due to miscommunication. If an exchange of goods for goods or gold for goods was made upon agreement (whether the buyer read the fine print or not) it is still a legal transaction. Ethically frowned upon by most yes, but still a legal transaction.
You will be scammed if you paid your gold but did not get your item. Don't be so hasty to accuse everyone of scamming - I'm sure that 99% of the people that use this Guild are not scammers. Don't report another user's account if you're pissed off because you didn't read the fine print correctly - that's part of life and you become a better consumer because of getting ripped off.
Don't scam people. Period. If you're unsure of what scamming is, check out the Exchange Forum and see if you can't figure it out.

Rule 6 |Be Smart|
I hate to say this, but I have much sympathy for people who get ripped off because they didn't read the fine print. It happens to all of us. I've had my fair share of this happening both inside and outside of Gaia. When in doubt, ask all the questions you can and if it still feels wrong the choice is up to you.

If you have comments or still have questions regarding these policies, feel free to PM me! I <3 PMs!

Post Format Guidelines

In order to keep our subforums clean, we need to have a good system of organization for the Thread Subjects.
A Thread Subject is the title of the thread that is listed in the subforum itself. So for example, the thread subject of this very thread is "Welcome to the BuyAndSellStuff Subforum". Because this thread is marked as an announcement thread, it is automatically at the top of thread list and is distinguished by its title layout.

|Why Format?|
One thing I know most people who shop the Exchange Forum find to be horribly frustrating is waiding through the dozens of posts about commons, uncommons and rares looking for a specific item. Unlike the Exchange Forum, which is a forum that contains subforums, our exchange is a subforum so we have to lump together the buying, selling, trading and discussing of Gaia economics in one place. That is what makes this formatting so important. Therefore, we would appreciate it if everyone could format their thread subjects to meet some kind of standard without restricting your freedom of making the titles clever.

|Formatting Guidelines|
Upon further thought of this subject, I decided that rather than tell you what exactly you should put in your subject, I'll tell you what things would be nice to see in your subject and you can choose from there:
-Put SELLING in the title or just an "S"; a common practice is to bracket the letters of abreviation for what you're trying to do [T] for Selling, Buying, Trading
-If you want to sell your item for gold but wouldn't mind getting items in return, you should put "T/O" in the title for Trade/Offer ~ this means you're accepting both offers of gold only (aka pure) or trades of a combination of pure and items.
-If you're not buying, selling or trading and all you're doing is discussing, please put a [D] as the first thing in the subject title of your thread.*

*Please note the reason why it is necessary to put this in your subject title if your thread is just a discussion: Sellers have to be more creative with their titles in order to differentiate themselves from the competition. If there are two users selling the same items, the buyer will choose the thread whose title is most appealing.

Protecting Yourself~Legalities of Trade

If you've never used the Exchange Forum to buy or trade items from other users, then you definately need to listen up (with your virtual ears).

When you buy something from someone outside of the Marketplace you MUST use the Bank's Trading System. Never do a one way trade with someone using the Gift Giving function. Whoever you give the gift to is not obligated to give you anything in return because it is technically not a (two-way) trade - it is a GIFT, which means you are GIVING someone something not TRADING them for something.

|Tips for Bank Trading|
-The title line of the trade should include what you're buying and how much you're buying it for.
-If there are too many items to be listed in the trade title, use your intuition to feel out whether you trust the person or not
