My Religion: Orthodox Jewish
I Am From: The USA, but please don't hold it against me.
Why I Joined: Judaism and Islam share so much in common. Sometimes it feels like sand. You can walk barefoot on a beach all day and be so happy; the sand feels good. But if you get just a few grains of sand in your shoes, it rubs blisters and it hurts. Judaism and Islam have so few differences that, like grains of sand, the ones we do have seem to irritate us beyond what they should. It saddens me. We are cousin-faiths. We should strive to love one another as cousins, as family, and the best way to do that is to learn about one another. I hope we give each other the chance here. I have so much respect for Islam, and those who practice it as lovers of peace. An observant Jew prays for peace at least three times every day, and strives to make peace where there is strife. The Qu'ran begins, "In the name of God, the most merciful, the most compassionate..." How could anyone find anything but delight in these shared traits?

Hi, I'm Silverah. I used to be a moderator at the Jewish Gaians Guild (JGG), but I think Darkphoenix got pissed off at me for being inactive and demoted me. Or something like that, but there's no love lost between us. I think. sweatdrop I'm a drama nerd, and I've been called an "awkward Jew" because every year at Drama banquet when they say grace I just kind of sit there and look around. (Do you know how weird it is to be the only person with their eyes open? Like cheating at Heads-up Seven-up but without the thrill of being caught.) And then I kind of murmur a ha-motzi, grab a roll, and everyone gets on with their lives. But it's awkward. Especially when you're sandwiched between a devout Catholic and a lapsed homosexual protestant who still closes his eyes and says Amen.
I think this is a really neat idea for a guild if it works. I don't really get an opportunity to talk with religious muslims on a regular basis (I think I've had a more religious conversation with a Hindu friend than a Muslim friend, and at my school they're pretty much evenly distributed. It's like, 60% Christian, 20% Muslim, 20% Hindu, and 10% Jewish/Other. But whatever) so I think this is a good chance to get to understand the religion
So, um, Hi?
EDIT: I attend a conservative synagogue, but my personal beliefs are kind of individualized.
And I change my Avi A LOT.

I'm, as the name says, Dis Domnu. Gaia's resident Discordian Jew.
I tend to hang around the ED-P for the most part, which should be a tip-off to my interests. I'm a bit of a military man, despite being almost fully pacifist (I can, and will, defend myself and others). I keep a copy of the Qur'an and the Books of Moses near me at all times, and I'm comfortable reading from both.
You folk should find that I'm a pretty easy going fellow, that is until I'm provoked by blatant and purposeful stupidity. I'm happy to answer any questions about Judaism, Islam, or even Discordianism that are put to me, so long as they're phrased politely.

I wouldn't mind being a mod, but if it's not too forward of me, I'd like to suggest that you choose a guild co-captain/vice-captain from our Muslim crowd. I'd rather not get too biased with leadership roles given to one crowd more than the other. Is it alll right if I advertise for this guild in the HeadCovering Guild for which I'm a vice-captain?

No that is exactly what I was aiming for...I want to have equal parts muslim and jewish mods...it creates a good balance...I would like the members to be equal too. Anyways, of course, feel free to advertise anywhere, we're really trying to create a good sized guild here.

Hello all. smile I'm Amber. I'm Atheist, and I live in Safed (yet moving soon), Israel. I'll probably be quite a passive member, because I'm mostly here to read what you have to say, not as much to participate, although I will of course. I do have some basic knowledge on Islam and I've been studying Arabic for 7 years now - but it looks like a pretty good opportunity to learn more about it.
