Okay, so I play D&D. Yes I admit it... I'm a geek. And truth be told I'd rather be a geek than cool any day. So my question is: What does everyone think of Dungeons and Dragons. Some people say that D&D is Satan's game. Me? I can't believe that a game where you use your imagination is from Satan. Of course you can do evil acts with your imagination but is that worse than any other RP game out there? I make it a habit never to be evil in any RP game. Not only do I feel that it invites the Devil but that it's just not who I am. So with a game for the imagination, the the game be inherintly evil. People also say that in D&D, you practice scorcery (and of course scorcery is of the Devil), but I've never done anything of the sort. So what does everyone else think? (And if your a gamer... sweet.)

I play D&D, and I have other LDS friends who play D&D (and other real-life roleplaying games), and we've never had a problem with not having a good spirit in the home while we play. I think it really depends on your approach to the game--if you treat it like the mere game that it is, it's harmless. But if you start to confuse the game with reality and use its fictional theologies as a substitute for Christ, then yeah, you've got a problem. (And if you consistently play evil characters, then you really need counseling...)

I'm actually writing a roleplaying game that's like a feel-good version of D&D. It doesn't have any complicated theologies, your character is not pre-prescribed a moral stance, and the "magic" utilized is merely a channeling of the planet's energies.

I hear you, I hate playing evil characters as well. Most of my characters are paladins, lol. And in an all-evil campaign in Realms of Glory, my character is decidedly the least evil (in fact, she could probably be best described as neutral). We'll see how that goes...we haven't really played it yet.

So...there's my two cents.

Er, it's more like five dollars, now... sweatdrop

Um... absolutly nothing. But this forum is for gaming discussions.

Thanks for the responce Lucentas. The reason I asked that question is because a friend of mine likes to flip-flop about D&D. He likes the game but his mom (whom by the way is an awesome person but molly mormon) keeps telling him that D&D is a satanic game. I try an explain to him that a bunch of mormon guys arn't going to go astray. D&D is no worse than a lot of video games out there today. At least with D&D we have to power to make right choices. With some video games you have to go down this set path of killing and violence.

Anyways, D&D to me is like a book that I take part of. One of those choose your own ending books. And I like to use my imagination. What happend to the good ol days when kids would read instead of watch TV?

Haha, reading beats out TV any day.

Imagination, like so many other things in this world, isn't inherently good or evil. It is how we choose to wield it that brings positive or negative outcomes.

Dude, he's not breaking the rules. Dungeons and Dragons is, in fact, a game. Gaming discussion. It's a game. See the connection?

Anyway, D&D isn't a Satanic game. Heck, my mom used to play it. Nothing is wrong with imaginating... things. Is imaginationg a word?

Huzzah for imagination!

Garret... I'd have to say that you confuse and befuddle me.

Anyways, my best friend just got home from his mission and we're gaming tonight. I'm sure if D&D were against the gosple he wouldn't play it. He's actually our DM. Imagination can be a good and bad thing, but I don't try to imagine anything bad. Mostly I just imagine myself trying to ask a girl out or me having super powers or if I was in an anime. Who spends there time in reality? Reality is boring! Killing a dragon is AWESOME!

D&D isn't against the gosple, It's not some sort of talking to gost thing, and imagine isn't bad. you don't know anything.

no offense but if you are just here to make dumb comments, take it somewhere else

ive never played D&D but i don't think the game is bad, but you can make any game bad if you try to make it that way
PostPosted: Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:12 pm

As you can with any other game. Even a good game can become bad if you become addicted to it, can't it? Moderation in all things? Or shooting games. I think KOTOR would be a bad game if when you keep playing it and constantly keep choosing the dard side. I don't think D&D is satan's game. I know imagination isn't a sin. But it's the way that we use the things that are given to us that can make them sinful. Like if we treat our car like a false idol. I just threw out this discussion to see what everyone else thinks. So thanks for the comments everyone!

I have always wanted to play dungeons and dragons. razz It's not popular where I live and no one in my church has or does play it.
As it being evil. I don't think it would be evil.
People read harry potter and I would think that would be much worse. Even most of TV shows like Friends, Everybody loves Raymond...ect almost all shows have bad things in it.
