The Elusive publisher's desk seems to elude us more than anything.
As i've heard qouted from a commercial:

"The good thing about the internet- there's thousands of pages. The bad thing about it? Is that there's thousands and thousands of pages.

Add to that that every page consists of someone's own opinion and it can be mind boggling if not downright annoying and can make an out of work author give up in disgust and scream.

No- I haven't been published.
No- I'm not perfect.
No- I'm not even a proffessional.

What am I is simply an average US citizen looking for potential agents and check lists on what to do to get my story publushed.
I find the duds as well as the possible because I am doing this COMPLETELY on my own.

You can call me Mythbusters- Writting style. I will orginize what information i get and not take anything for truth.
There's a lot of pirates on the net.
There's a lot of do's and don'ts.

I am constantly on the look out for writting conferences.
Note: I try to find the one's in Texas but if you have a request, i will do what I can to find it.
But that is time consuming. I will talk to Annetia to ask permission if i can charge gold for that. (50g should be fair right?)

Please Note:
My life is very busy right now. I am currently in a dead end job going to church when I can.
As much as it's worth- I have a personal life. I am also working on my book and I have a goal as to getting it done. So If I'm slow with information please bear with me.

There's also a lot of research involved. There is also two ways of publishing.

Self Publishing
And
Publishing Agent

On that Knowledge. I will be working to get both types of information together.

Vantagepress.com

They've got a good sales pitch but this is something that EVERY NEW AUTHOR should be aware of:

How, you may ask?
You, the author, pay a fee for the publication of your book. The amount of the fee varies with each manuscript depending upon length and other factors which contribute to production costs. In return for the fee you pay, we publish your book and you receive 40% of the retail price of every book sold at standard discounts. (The average bookseller gets 40% of the retail price and Vantage Press receives 20%.)

There are lots of things wrong with this paragraph. Sure- it may look appealing to an author that doesnt know what to look for but there are certain catch phrases that should tell you NO.

What i have underlined is really not ethical.

Booksurge.com doesnt charge you until you make your first book sold.
I've put these people in the ugly list.
If upon even 1 miute of searching the site i find these types of selling advices- i would say no.
Sorry.

What choice, then, do you have?

You can keep sending your manuscript around in the hope that you will be one of the fortunate exceptions;
You can print it yourself, and take on all the functions of a publisher, such as promoting, distributing, packing, billing, collections, etc.;
You can put your manuscript away and give up in despair;
Or you can come to Vantage Press, where your work will be welcome, and will get a prompt, careful and sympathetic reading.

They ditch the traditional publishing agent's desk.
Part of writting is fighting for the desk.
You can't shy away from it.
Sometimes self publishing is good and its great for charecter when you get your first check.
Just keep your mind open to snares like this.
