I've been thinking about taking Red Raspberry tea or making a tincture to take while I'm pregnant. All sources agree that it's good for you while you're pregnant, however, one of my sources (a book on herbal teas) suggests that it's best to only take it during the last two months of your pregnancy and after you give birth because it will strengthen the uterine walls, reduce labor pain, and reduce occurences of false labor, etc. This book says that it will relax the uterus if you take it before that and that this is bad. However. Two of my other books suggest taking it for morning sickness and to prevent miscarriage (probably because it relaxes uterine and intestinal spasms). Not to mention that they all agree it makes your bones, teeth (which mine tend to suck) and skin healthier. I really want to take it for all the vitamins in it and because I'd like to see if it does help me have an easier labor and be healthier. I'm already like almost 5 months pregnant. I was wondering if anyone else has other sources of info about this.
(Also, if you're curious it has the following vitamins/nutrients - calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, zinc, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, C, and E.)

all my sources recomend raspberry Leaf tea for pregnancy. 1/2 to one teaspoon steeped in boiling water for 5 min. 3 times per day during pregnancy. I took it for all three of my kids, after 3months with the first two, and from day one with my last. It makes spasms of the smooth muscle less common. Therefore less cramping during mensis, easier braxton hicks contractions (pre labour pains). I do not recomend it too close to labout though as the strong contractions are needed to deliver. But discontinuing it about 2 weeks prior to your due date is fine. Also just post deliver for about four weeks you would want to avoid it as you need the cramping to help stop the bleeding post partum. Blessed thistle is recomended ONLY AFTER Delivery to help increase milk production and stop bleeding, but it can make the cramping worse. It should NEVER be taken during pregnancy!!

I also use raspberry leaf tea to ease menstral cramps and Irritable blowel syndrome cramping. At night mixed with valerian root and steeped for 10 minutes it makes a super sleep/ anti cramp remedy.

Tinctures are usually in alcohol so to be avoided during pregnancy, an infusion is better.

I suggest reading very carefully, because it can cause you to go into labor. It can be very helpfull, I just dont recomend taking too much

Cool, I was going to make a tincture out of glycerine maybe, since it tastes better and isn't harmful. Although I could just as easily make the tea. Maybe I'll see how it tastes first. I'm usually not much of a tea person so I think the tincture might be easier for me.

rasberry leaf tea is not too bad, sweetened with clover honey it is rather nice, but I got so used to it I drink straight.

er... uh... I had to order mine online. If you want I could order you some. It's not very expensive. Probably like... 4 bucks a pound or less and a pound would last you for like a year at least... It's a pretty big bag. Just let me know if you want me to order you some sis. It can be a little b-day gift, and it would actually make it there on time, not like the other thing I'm getting you.

Ordering is good, usually. On the same count, if you get really bad PMS, you can buy evening primrose oil capsules from Walmart. (I like the tea better. It tastes all sweet and soothy.)

Oooooh. We don't, I order all mine online. Besides, I'm more trusting of the site I buy from than my local store- at least I can get documentation on where my herbs come from.

Ohh...would you post that site for those others of us who don't have access to a store?

That's where I get mine too. I haven't been let down yet. Their stuff is always good quality. Although, hehe, I ordered a pound of raspberry leaf not realizing how huge the bag would be. So now I have lots of it.

XD yeah. I always order the 4oz at first, since they go by weight- usually that means there's a LOT of lighter herbs, like leaves flowers and aerials. Roots and barks, heavy stuff, is usually a little less of it.
