[NOVA'S LOG]

Ive decided to have a log here since I feel that I can get some good advice when it comes to horses. At the moment my horse (Red) has been sold, he was sold on Sunday (2 Sept) The reason for him being sold was that he just wasnt progressing and he was a difficult ride. Although I still do love him to pieces. So the hunt for a new horse has officially begun, ive seen three so far. This sunday Im going to be looking at horses the entire day, which is very much exciting razz I would like to eventually go into eventing. Oh and on sunday I went to the Witness xcountry and Took some photos of the horses. They arent that great so dont tell me they're terrible cause I know they are. And no you may not steal my crappy pictures >/ And no thats not me on the horse and its not my horse either, I was simply taking the pictures.

The horses I have seen so far are:

Halligans Garden

He is a four year old, chestnut, thoroughbred. He has basic schooling, has started in polocross. He is 15.3hh but should grow a little more. I rode him and he was fantastic. Very willing and easy to ride. The only vices he has is that he is a crib biter which is a bit worrying. He is a very sweet little thing, but crib biting could lead to other problems.

Superman

Im not sure of his age, 16hh and a dark bay. When we arrived he wasnt in his stable. So one of the grooms went to collect him and as soon as he walked into the stable yard we found he had a sway back. So he was a definte no, no. But I felt I should document all the horses I have seen.

Majic

Im not sure on his age either but we think he is fairly young. He is a dark chestnut, 16.3hh and he is a thoroughbred. We arrived at the place and he was in his stable, the owner had told us that he was extremely skinny, she had been trying to make him pick up weight but he just hasnt picked up any weight. So we tacked him up and headed down to the area which was part xcountry couse. It was awsome. I jumped on him first and walked him around to get used to him. He walks soooo slowly! xD Then I took him for a trot and he keeps an nice even pace. Then I cantered him and he was just wonderful *___* the best canter ever! Its like sitting on a cushion! After that my riding instructor got on him and took him over a few 18in - 2ft jumps and then wanted me to jump him. Which at first I thought was very daunting since I am extremely nervous when it comes to jumping. It was probably from past experieces. So I got on took him over two little jumps in a figure of eight and then this lady, Karen who is a xcountry instructor told me to take him down this like gymnastic thing, I think that is what you would call it, its like a line of 5 jumps.

I was really nervous since the last time I had done one was like 3 years ago and I had only done it once. In the end I jumped it and this little guy flew over it without a problem. Then I jumped another combination and he ducked out the jumps, but that was partly my fault but eventually I got him over all three jumps and I wasnt feeling nervous at all on this horse. Then we started to jump the xcountry jumps. Waterditches, barrels, spreads, ditches, water combinations, you name it I jumped it. It was soooo freaking awsome I havent jumped like that for some time and it was just such a confidence builder.

As you can see I really really like him but the only thing is that he may have a dropped hip and he is extremely skinny and he hasnt picked up any weight in like 6 months. Does anyone have any advince or know anything about horses with dropped hips?

Well thats all I have to write until sunday >P Ill be back to type more. I hope I get a horse before my school holidays here (yes my are different.) So I can do shows and pony club and all that fun stuff!

[NO. 2]

On sunday I went to see another three horses. It was a fairly interesting day and I enjoyed it >P

The horses were:

Guiness

We went to see guiness first, cause he was the furtherest from us. When we arrived he was in the paddock so the groom had to catch him or at least try too. He was very resistant to being caught but then again he had most likely just been let out into the paddock. When the groom caught him we tacked him up and i jumped on. First he didnt want to go down to the arena cause the other horses werent there. Then he darted into the paddock with the other horses cause he didnt want to go where I wanted him to go. Anyway once he had him at the arena. He felt really lazy, slow walk and stuff but once he got going he was great. We jumped him and her was seriously spooky, but we did get him over. What a lovely jump *_*
He is a bay that is 16.3hh and is 9 years old.

Western Hero

He is also a bay, but is only 4 years old. He is a bit nippy and wont keep his head still when putting a bridle on but then again he is a thoroughbred baby so its expected. I got on him walked him up to the arena and he seemed very energetic. I trotted him and cantered and he was fine. He only runs to the side randomly trying to go towards the gate. But man this little thing can jump like a dream! He is still very green and my instructor says that he could become a handful and that he is simply not the right horse for me. But i really really like him but I do trust her word more.

Monet

He was terrible! He couldnt even strike off into a canter properly! I didnt like him one bit.

and that was my adventures on sunday.

I don't know much about dropped hips, but I can see what I can find out.

On the weight issue with Majic, do you know what she's been doing to try to get him to pick up weight? If there is no way that you can get him to put on a decent amount of flesh, I wouldn't recommend buying him. I can say from experience, if you have a horse that is a seriously hard keeper and impossible to keep weight on, taking them anywhere is miserable. I was accused of neglect and starving my horse numerous times because he couldn't hold weight. Hopefully, they'll find a solution for his weight problem because he sounds like a nice horse.

Best of luck with the rest of your search, and just out of curiosity (don't answer if you don't want to) Where are you from?

Thanks for the advice and for answering.
I havnt had a chance to ask the owner about what she has been doing to get him to gain weight. We also fear that if we brought him by feeding that he might go nuts, with all the energy the food is giving him. But there are other horses that Im looking at and perhaps Ill have my horse soon ^^

Oh Im from South Africa ;D
