I was playing guitar just a minute ago...no louder than usual, and there's nothing wrong with the amp as far as I know...and all of a sudden, I hear this screeching noise. Not just screeching...it sounds like an electric drill. I switch off the amp and it stops.

What the hell is this? Any ideas?

A whirring noise? Did you step on your cord? Disjoining your guitar with your cord even a little bit can produce some NASTY feedback.

Didn't sound like feedback; the feedback that usually comes out of my amp sounds nothing like an electric drill, and only happens when I'm sitting right by the amp. I was sitting on the bed and the amp was on the floor.

Could be something with the cord, though. Thanks TheAxeKnight.

Something electrical or magnetic (or both!) could have come into contact with your cord or amp. That would make that nasty noise.

From what I read in the rig setups, you use your amp for bass and guitar. The wiring might be fried on it. It shouldn't though. Idk, I give up.

That's the other amp. (Although I'll check the amp I use for both, just incase of wiring fryage. I've never had problems with that amp, but ya can't be too careful.) I'm at my parents' house this week so I'm using the lil' 10 watt amp I keep there, and I only use it for guitar.

It didn't make any wierd noises today though, so yay.

I think that happened once on my incredibly old tube amp...

Once my guitar amp was playing radio signal...it was hilarious and spooky. Me and a friend just started hearin voices.

That happened to a friend of mine...while his amp wasn't even plugged in. Must have been wierd as anything.
