All hands, battlestations! In all seriousness, the biggest news to hit Robotech fandom... well, EVER, has hit. Warner Bros has announced the license to produce a live action film based on Robotech. The film will be produced by Maguire Entertainment, the production company of Spider Man star Tobey Maguire. It looks like they've got high hopes for this one, and so do I... so get ready for RT to hit the big time. Anime News NetworkThe Hollywood Reporter

I hope the movie doesn't suck; I mean, it's pretty risky having a live-action version of Robotech. The way I see it, there are three posibilities how the movie comes out
1) It becomes a hite with more positivie views than negative and attracts legions of new robotech fans. biggrin
2) It's a moderate success with mixed reviews but attracts some new robotech fans. smile
3) It sucks beyond compare, with supremely negative reviews and RUINS ROBOTECH FOR ANOTHER 3 OR 4 YEARS. crying
Let's pray that it's the first two ones.

No matter how bad the film is it won't ruin Robotech. Even with the gap between New Gen and Shadow Chrons it still has Millions of fans worldwide. So that tells ya that it WILL SURVIVE! nomatter what happens.
I have heard that they are gonna use the same type of CGI as the Transformers live action to make the Veritech fighters transform it'll look really realistic.

TOBY MAGUIRE IS GOING TO BE RICK?! Dude, How can that be, yo? I mean, his voice doesn't fit in right with a guy like Rick Hunter. I pray that this movie will not bomb.

A lot of the producers are carrying over from Harmony Gold, Toby's going to have the lead role, if anything because his production company got the rights. Smart move with the success of Transformers...

As always this is a mixed-feelings subject. Movies can either be good or bad depending on director, cast, etc... and I don't think I've actually seen any animes turned live action that did well or that I have even seen. I know the Evangelion one is still in limbo for the moment. This is what happens when hollywood runs out of ideas it turns to comics, animes, and videogames for movie inspirations.

Yes, and I'm sure we all remeber the Resident Evil: Extinction and Dragonball Z debacles. I have hope though, and would like to see Robotech become a live film. I they can do it with Transformers, then they can sure as hell do it with Robotech. That's what I think anyway.
