I recently bought this "crystal" from a nifty antiques shop in Maryland. I loved it at first sight, and looked around for another bargain like it. I came back, finding nothing else of my likeing, and bouight it. But now I'm having doubts about it. I'm wondering if it's a real "natural crystal" like the pricetag said, of just a big hunk of glass that was hacked at untill it looked real.
And if it is real, I want to know what it is. I'm having a bit of trouble identifying the crystal. (which is pathetic because this was the kind of thing I was practicing for two years in a row... seventeenth place out of fourty-four in the Science Olympiad thingie...)
Information on the crystal and my assumption of what it is:
Color: Clear
Luster: Glassy
Fracture/Cleavage: Conchoidal fracture
Hardness: Something over 6?
Maybe quartz, but I doubt it due to the fracture...
Then again, there was this quice of quartz with a conchoidal fracture....
[click]Perhaps it came from the inside of a very large peice of quartz?
I'll update this post with a picture of my crystal later (when I get a new camera, the one I have is currently broken)
