Falling for a fictional character happens all the time, I personally have a thing for Lawliet from Death Note.

But just how far is too far in this crazy mixed up world?

Where does "Oh my gawd that character is so hot!" end up being "Im a stalker RAR RAR You look like my favorite character twisted I'm going to kill you so we are never apart" ?

Just thought I'd throw the topic out there.

Feel free to rave about your favorite character while your here too. (Fangirls/boys despite their initial freakishness, have always got some hillarious story!!!)

But whatever.... Im sleep deprived......

Everyone likes to have their fantasies, and fictional characters are merely fodder for our fantasies. As long as it stays a fantasy, there is nothing wrong with it. Your fantasies can get as crazy, convoluted, involved, and whatnot as you like, but just as long as it stays a fantasy it's okay.

It's hard for me to go on about my favorite characters because I have far too many on my list. If it's just my fantasies, why should I limit my options? However, my obsession with Alucard from Hellsing borders on the disturbing.

Despite the fact that he is hundreds of years old.... Alucard is damn hot.

Indeed. And age doesn't really matter, since he's ageless.

I bought an '07 Hellsing calender. Whenever he's the pic of the month, I can't look at it without getting a "WANT!" thing going on.

If the character is developed enough that they seem real, and that you gain an emotional attachment to them, it's just to the credit of whoever created them. It happens to me in books mostly but sometimes in shows. I can't really help it sometimes as other worlds are opened you see people of qualities you could love and end up loving them despite their fictionality.
Quote:
It is true I have not seen the earth nor men, but in your books I have drunk fragrant wine, I have sung songs, I have hunted stags and wild boars in the forests, have loved women. . . . Beauties as ethereal as clouds, created by the magic of your poets and geniuses, have visited me at night, and have whispered in my ears wonderful tales that have set my brain in a whirl. I have heard the singing of the sirens, and the strains of the shepherds' pipes; I have touched the wings of comely devils who flew down to converse with me of God. . . . In your books I have flung myself into the bottomless pit, performed miracles, slain, burned towns, preached new religions, conquered whole kingdoms.

I've had a crush on Indiana Jones since I was a little kid. My husband is made well aware of the fact that, though I love him and plan to be faithful to him for the rest of my life, if Indiana Jones ever steps out of my TV... well... let's just say my husband's history.

He's sexy, smart, and great with a bull whip. It don't get much better than that!

And while it isn't love per se, I have fantasies of stepping into Wuthering Heights and taking the child-Heathcliff away and giving him a good home.

lol lol Everyone from Wuthering Heights needs a good home. That and to build up an immunity to the consumption.

Hehe, well, I don't really like anyone from the Grange. The two Catherine's and Sr.'s brother annoy the heck out of me. Heathcliff is the only one I felt very close to.

It's not a pin-up calender. It's just a calender for the anime series.

If it was an Alucard pin-up calender, there'd be alot more pics of him and he'd be wearing alot less clothing. But an Alucard pin-up calender wouldn't be a bad idea . . .

It is a good quote.

That book may very well be the most depressing and melancholy book I've ever read. The plot teaser they put on the back should just read "Everyone ever gets the consumption"

Iv actually never read that before.

I know the general storyline...but it sounds like a pathetic waste of time so: meh.

(In reply to OP)

It really depends on how the person in question reacts to the love. For example, if the person treated others more kindly and was genuinely more happy while they were 'in love' with the fictional character, then sure, all power to them. As long as they do acknowledge that the character IS fictional and don't engage in some odd pursuit in the character's name.

(In reply to ManateeMan)

I'm probably stating the obvious here, but you'll get over it. That quote is dead on, and I believe it's because people like the idea of being understood. When someone writes a book, they can make characters very human in their physical actions and reactions to the things around them, but leave out crucial information about the character. This information is usually filled in by the reader without meaning to. The reader will usually apply some stereotype to the character, judged by the characters actions in the book. Sometimes though, the reader will apply themselves to the role, and those are the characters I think people are more likely to fall in love with.

My point wasn't made very clear. Win some, lose some.
