Book three had already come out before I decided to give in to the crazy Harry Potter craziness that had started to spread across the globe. So one day at work I noticed that we were now selling the HP books (um btw I worked in an Arts and Crafts store...weird huh?) so I used my weekly 40% off discount and picked up book one.

I got home and for two hours I didn't move. I thought it was brilliant. So many different age groups could enjoy and appreciate it and for a first novel attempt I was blown away.

The characters were so well described I felt Like I was hanging out with them. It was humorous and tragic, dramatic and uplifting.

I had a slight problem with the sudden bonding of Hermione to Ron and Harry...I know the troll was a big step in the right direction but their friendship seemed a bit rushed.

The very next day I bought book 2 and 3.

I started reading the first novel in the series when the first four books were already in stores. A friend of mine from elementary school introduced me to the series by letting me borrow her copy of The Philosopher's Stone.

Before that, I hated reading. But with that book ... I couldn't put it down. I was eating, sweeping, and almost sleeping while reading. My mom was so thrilled at my sudden love for a book that she bought the first four books for me for Christmas, along with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.

Even though my favourite novel of the series is The Deathly Hallows, I still really do love the first novel.

I glanced through the SS/PS when it came out and was going to read it but at the time I wasn't that into reading so I never got past the first chapter.

I noticed one of my older sisters reading the books a little bit before they announced the movie coming out. Thats when I finally started to read the book again even though I didn't have high expectations for it.

I think you know the rest. If I didn't like the books I wouldn't have made this guild. rofl

I didn't start reading the books until the 3rd was out. I had a friend who loved them, but I recall picking the book up from her table and eyeing the cover with distaste. It just didn't seem my thing.

I'm thinking I got the books for Christmas or something...and that's why I finally picked them up to read. I was immediately hooked, and I'm now one of the biggest HP nerds you'll ever meet. I grew up alongside Harry Potter.

Now, at 20 years old, I've read each of the books more than 10 times, and when I look back on the first book, it now seems almost childish to me.

I read the first book when I was 12, and the first three were already out, after much badgering from my friends, and being completely alienated by their conversations about "itchy squids".

I was hooked, the next day I begged my mother to buy the next two books, and lucky me, the fourth came out the following week.

Looking back, the Philosopher's Stone is not that good compared to the rest of the series (nor is the Chamber of Secrets), but it hooked me, and the rest of us I presume, and that says something.

I agree with Niente the Shattered, the friendship with Hermione, Ron and Harry was too rushed. But other than that... Harry Potter nerd-ism forever.
