So, her father was REALLY useless. This was no surprise to her, heck, she didn't think it would be a surprise to anyone; he just gave off the aura of being completely helpless. She was surprised he managed to get up in the morning by himself.

Oh, he was useful, of course. Senna preferred not hunting if she could avoid it, and he seemed pretty good at that. If she wanted something chances were he could get it for her, and he always did exactly what she wanted if she begged enough. Well, almost always.

This was the problem of course. Her Journey for Beautiful Love had been momentarily delayed. She honestly hadn't expected him to say no. She really hadn't expected him to go and add that she didn't know what she was talking about, and to ask her mother instead. Her mother was sorta... well, she was much less patient then her dad. A hard a**, if you will. But she was also a girl, so she should understand better. She might even be able to explain what her dad had meant when he said that having a mate wasn't just about bossing someone around.

Hasana would probably say Triv was lying.

HAH! That would show him.

The only thing left to do was hunt the Zebra lioness down. Her mom had a lot of trouble getting hunted down it seemed, but the stripes were good for hiding. Not for long though.

"Moooom!" Senna yelled, catching the older lionesses scent, "where are you?" she whined, sounding not much different from when she was a cub.

There weren't girls everywhere anymore.

Hasana was like Triv. She missed the loud racket six sets of tiny female vocal cords had made. The screaming, wailing, crying, fighting, drama. All of it. She missed it all.

She didn't miss being knocked up. No, this sucked.

Her only joy came from knowing Triv would give her more daughters and she could have back everything she missed. There were at least three of them. After having six she'd sort of learned to tell how many.

It was probably, you know, a good time to start thinking about TELLING her mate they were going to have more daughters. He'd be happy, she was sure. They missed having their wonderful little female cubs.

Senna's screech was almost foreign to her ears. Lately--no, for a long while--she'd been quiet. Like Swa. Only not sleeping all day. ...And night, for that matter. How was she not overweight?

Anyway, the cry of her daughter wasn't unwelcomed, but...

She had a feeling a red flag should be up.

"What, Senna? I'm over here," her mother called from off behind a tree.

Senna's ears pricked.

She had answered, that was the first sign that this plan was going to go very well. Now she just had to sit down with her mother, give her a pained look, and talk about... about... the loneliness in her heart? Sure, that would work. The loneliness in her heart, and how she needed to find true love and stuff. Surely, as a fellow female, her mother must be a firm believer in true love, right?

Right.

"Oh good!," she said cheerfully, sticking her head behind the tree with all the energy of a Mexican jumping bean, "I was looking all over for you mommy! And may I note how stunning you look?"

This was almost a lie. Senna was so wrapped up in herself she hadn't even noticed that her mom's appearance was any different from usual. As far as she was concerned her mother wouldn’t ever change. Most things, actually, never seemed to change to Senna, seeing as how she never really put the energy into studying something more then once. Most likely it would have taken some kind of 12 cub litter for Senna to notice anything at all.

She sat down firmly in front of her mother, putting on what she thought was a forlorn expression, but probably looked closer to the expression of a confused giraffe.

"Can I talk to you about something important?"

Mommy...?

All the red alarms having six daughters planted in your mind as a mother were going off. At once. Including a few she hadn't even realized were there. And a few new ones.

Yes, this wouldn't lead anywhere good, that was for sure.

Hasana eyed her for a moment, before responding with a question of her own, and the only logical explanation for Senna behaving this way.

"What do you want?"

"I'm wounded," Senna said, as nobly as she could manage, "don't you think it's possible I just to see you and talk? You know... lioness to lioness?"

She managed to put italics in her speech. A nice feat, but she was multi-talented in the field of being convincing. However... speaking with her mother had always been harder. Her mom was... smart. It's not like her dad was a rock or anything, but he usually just seemed to take things more at face value. And he was a total pushover for his cute daughters. He lacked certain feminine wiles that her mother seemed to have in abundance. These wiles made it hard for Senna to really be close to her mother, since her most ideal relationship included getting everything she wanted with minimum effort.

"I mean, I understand if you don't want to talk to me of course," she added, sounding wounded, "I know I'm not a very good daughter," and with that she looked down at her feet in a pathetic manner.

This might work though.

It probably would have worked.

Would have.

Too bad for Senna Hasana was busy being, you know, pregnant, and in times of pregnancy she had a shorter fuse and less compassion for anything, even her own (already-born) kin.

Still, she didn't look or sound irratated, just... uneffected. "Senna, what do you want?" she repeated, more firmly.

Ug.

Her masterfully crafted plan went right down the toilette. It was a good plan, but since it had died Senna dissuaded it like it was nothing. One of her few truly good qualities was her ability to adapt.

Even if adapting meant being a total brat.

"Fine," she said, a little snappily, "first off, let's establish that I am a fully grown adult, and am only doing this because I respect yours and fathers opinions."

She thought that came out rather well. Really mature actually, like some sort of queen or something. At least a duchess.

"This place is beginning to make me feel like I'm being stifled. Creatively and such. You know, not being aloud to blossom. And I know that you have only ever protected me and stuff. But this is serious business mom, so please take it seriously," she nodded severely.

Steadying her self she continued, "So I want to go on a Journey for Beautiful Love. To find a mate and stuff. I mean, but first dad said I didn’t' know what a mate was," she rushed the second part, pausing for a moment to think.

"Apparently it's not just someone who does what you tell them to do without arguing. Or so he says. So uhm, can you help and bless my journey and stuff?"

Hasana nodded, real slow like. It was true. Senna was an adult. She didn't have to bother asking whatever she was about to.

But once she had actually asked, Hasana found herself glad she had. She couldn't keep her 'fully grown adult' daughter in the Unity Walkers if she wanted to leave. She hadn't been able to keep juvenile daughters who wanted to leave in the pride, but...

"Senna, why do you suddenly want a mate?" she asked, sounding curious and nothing more. The thought of grandchildren was great, even having more on the way herself. The age gape between them and her first litter was big. It'd be nice if they had cubs their age to play with.

But...

"What?"

She shifted. Oh, that was a hard one.

"Well, I deserve a beautiful relationship, isn't that enough!?" she asked, entirely haughtily.

She knew, of course, it wasn't going to fly. The little gossip monger tattle-tale that was herself was already chanting 'liar liar tail on fire' at her in an annoying and incessant way. And she did want to go right?

"... Okay well, you know... Everyone else left, okay? So shouldn't I get to go, and maybe... well I mean, then I can come back? But with somebody else..."

She stopped and shifted uncomfortable, "There'd be someone else around, okay? And maybe my sisters are out there too, right?"

She shut her mouth quick. Senna wasn't the type to be unduly attached to her siblings. She wasn't particularly kind or doting. But she did like them, in her own way, and they had always been around before to tell on and make fun of and follow around and tell what to do. And now it was nothing but silence and contemplation and she was getting older and older and more alone everyday and she knew it.

"And you didn't answer my question either," she snapped, forcing her way out of her reverie, "what if I just want one? Why can't I have one? Dad wouldn't answer either because you are both liars!"

You know, maybe she didn't need more cubs after all. When Senna started talking it was the same as a cub talking. She hadn't matured at all, which was distressing. If you took her maturity (or lack of it) into account, her point was slightly less powerful, but still valid.

"You can go if you want, Senna," Hasana answered as soon as her daughter had stopped her rambling. "You're right, you are an adult, and your sisters were allowed to leave, so you should be, too. But... I'd just suggest thinking a little more about what you do--and say, for that matter--or you're going to get in a lot of trouble."

"I don't get it."

A firm statement and a firm beliefe.

So she could go, but she wasn't thinking right? Shouldn't that mean she shouldn't go? And what was wrong about wanting to be an adult. Isn't that how it worked?

"Think about what? I don't understand," she officialy decided to start fit throwing stage 2, namely, placing blame.

"I mean, you won't explain it! How am I supposed to know what you're talking about?"

She gave her a firm look, "I want to get it right, okay? So tell me."

Didn't get it? Hasana wasn't sure how to explain it to her. "Just make sure you find someone you trust, and not someone who will leave," she offered, hoping that would be enough. If her daughters had any of her blood in her, most of them wouldn't take abandonment well. "And make sure they're not too old. I want grandkids before I die."

Senna turned her nose up impressively, "As if anyone would ever leave me," she said, confidence turned up to about a billion.

She shifted slightly after a moment though. Sometimes people left, right? But there was no way that could possibly happen. Sure, her sisters had left, but that hadn't been because of her, it was because they were all nuts. The lot of them. Anyway, she was also sure they'd be back soon. After all, adventures were all good and such, but surely being around her was better.

"Grandkids?"

She tilted her head, "Like, cubs and stuff? That sounds a little weird mom. Anyway, I don't know what that has to do with old since dad has us and he's pretty old. Like, really old."

She wrinkled her nose, "Not like I'd want an old mate anyway, old folks are dull."

Hasana's mouth open. Then closed again. Damn, she hated when this happened, especially if it happened with one of her Senna-ish daughters, especially Senna herself. "Good point," she admitted grudingly. Triv was really old. So was she, though.

...Ugh.

She made a face at the word 'dull'. Dull? She was certainlyt not dull! Triv was dull, but--

Veering off track.

"Do you plan on coming back?"

Senna could have rubbed it in, but even she felt it was unnecessary. After all, she felt the evidence spoke for itself.

"Huh?"

Senna was momentarily speechless, a small miracle, and had to unravel the question in her head. She had not expected it to be asked, since to her it seemed a silly question, probably the most silly she'd ever heard.

"Of course! Where else would I go? This is my home," she said firmly.

And it was true, even though she wasn't overly fond of the place, it was where her family lived, and that made it home.

"But not too soon, I need to be free for awhile, and such," she added, feeling it necessary to remind herself that she was, in fact, going somewhere.
