Because admit it, these lists are fun to look at. wink

Pretty straightforward topic. List your 10 favorite manga series, along with reasons why. If you haven't read 10 series, or can't figure out 10 series for this, then you can list less.

Note that these should be your favorite manga series. If there's a light novel you HAVE to include, that's fine, but if you want to list your favorite anime series then please use this thread.

I'd love to make this list completed series only, but I don't think I'd have ten series then. Most of my list is ongoing.

1.) Fullmetal Alchemist - I'll admit; I find other series more enjoyable than the FMA manga. The story itself, though, continues to shine and, in some ways, outdo the anime. The characters have a lot of depth, the world is continuing to be revealed, and the couple moments are much nicer in the manga.
2.) Yotsuba&! - It says something that I've re-read the first two volumes several times, and I still find them just as hilarious as I did the first time. Yotsuba is the most enjoyable child character I have ever seen in a manga, but the entire cast is extremely fun.
3.) Tekkon Kinkreet - As with my anime list, a recently-finished series jumped up the list. TK had a unique art style that I simply loved to stop and stare at (fun fact: a series gets bonus points if I ever stop and stare at a page/panel for whatever reason; all three top series had this happen a lot), as well as interesting characters (Black/Kuro and White/Shiro play off each other extremely well) and plot. The fact that Treasure Town acted as a character of sorts also adds to my fascination with the series.
4.) Cardcaptor Sakura - While I loved the anime, I greatly prefer CCS' manga ending. There were fewer cards in the manga, but CLAMP's art and the character (and couple) development present in the manga surpassed the anime.
5.) Bokurano - I'm sad that this series has actually dropped down in the list. Recent chapters aside, this would probably be my favorite series, or second on the list. I continue to find each story saddening and interesting, Dung Beetle continues to fill me with sadistic glee, and... I can't say much more due to spoilers. XD
6.) Nana - I could tell from the beginning that this series would be one of my favorites, and so far it continues to deliver. Nana, Hachi and the rest of the cast continue to invoke various reactions from me, and the story continues to be more interesting and suspenseful than most shoujo series I've read.
7.) SaiKano - Hands down, the best romance series I've read. Shuji and Chise's relationship was beautiful, even more with Chise's condition. The story was also told differently, switching between standard manga and Chise's notes to Shuji.
8.) Death Note - The second half goes downhill, but it's still my favorite Shonen Jump series. The cat-and-mouse game has never been more interesting than when L and Light have been trying to outdo each other and anticipate how the other will respond, and I'm not sure what's more fun: when L is able to get something past Light (or vice versa), or when one of their schemes goes exactly as planned.
9.) Tie for ninth, both works of Takako Shimura:
Aoi Hana - Some guild members may know that I've recently gotten into yuri. I have yet to finish all of Lililicious' projects (heck, I still haven't bought a lot of the yuri that already out here), but Aoi Hana is my favorite. Where many yaoi and yuri series come across as a bit goofy (admit it, some of the plot lines are really strange), this one feels much more realistic and refreshing.
Hourou Musuko - A series that focuses on cross-dressing, but is used completely seriously (compared to series like Utena and Host Club, where it's largely overlooked). The characters, like in Aoi Hana feel realistic and refreshing, as does the story itself.

Honorable Mention:
Kino no Tabi - This light novel is only on the honorable mention list because it's a light novel; it'd be near the top otherwise. Kino is my favorite female character, and it has all the charm of the anime and then some.
Welcome to the NHK - Again, good but a light novel. It'd be borderline top 10 anyway. It's a depressing book, but also very enjoyable and interesting; a unique look into a life of a hikkikomori.
Iono-Sama Fanatics - A hilarious yuri series about a queen with an obsession with black-haired women. Another series I have fun re-reading.
Mars - I expected a simple boy-meets-girl story. The series pulled so many things into Kira and Rei's relationship, resulting in an incredible romance story.
D. Gray-Man - The story's cliché, I know. Doesn't mean I enjoy reading it any less. The characters are also more interesting and enjoyable than other Shonen Jump series like Bleach or Naruto, and the darker feel of the story adds to my love of it. If nothing else, it's my guilty pleasure series. =P

My manga and anime tastes are different. I largely prefer my shonen/shoujo series in manga form, and I prefer my darker series as manga. Maybe it's because manga seems more mature* as a whole than anime; I savor finding a mature anime more than a mature manga.

* By mature, I'm talking about a series that needs a more developed level of thinking, not violence/nudity/sex.

What are some series you've liked and disliked?

Regarding Haibane Renmei, you should just watch the anime. The doujinshi it was based on stopped after a couple of chapters, so you're not going to get much from that.
