After watching the Anime for Princess Tutu I wanted to read the 2 volume Manga to see how much they contrasted. I have to admit this was the first Anime I have seen that completely surpasses the manga in every single way.

So I ask of you, Have you read it? If so, what were your feelings on the collection? Do you think it compared to the beautiful suspensful Anime created in it's honor?

I haven't read it, but a lot of people tell me it's very poor compared to the anime. That it's just "another shoujo manga" with a pretty girl and attacks and such.

However, I haven't read it myself because I can't find it online and I can't find it in any stores.

I've only read the first of the two books myself... and while I still do like it, the anime is much, much better to me.

You sort of have to take the manga as a separate entity altogether...

What shocked me about the production of the manga though was that the manga-ka had not seen the anime prior to creating the manga. If I'm remembering right, there was an artist's comment in the first book somewhere that said she'd only seen bits and pieces of the anime itself... which would explain why the manga differs so greatly.

Was the anime created before the manga?

That's surprising.

Heh, yeah, it's usually the other way around. But the anime in this case was produced before the manga, hence all the disparity.

    Wow.

I must say, I honestly though the manga came out first and the animation team kinda just... spiffed it up a bit.

Did you read the manga online?

I bought the Manga at my local Borders, it was just sitting there one day.

Though I didn't recall anything about the anime comming first, if so then they shouldn't have bothered with a measly two volume manga.

The manga had potential, but they cut it off before it could grow.

If you want, you can check animenewsnetwork.com and compare the release dates for the anime to the release dates of the manga; they differ by about a year or so, if I remember correctly.

I suppose the manga was just meant to be a short? sad

So the manga is only two volumes long? That's pretty short... does it have a proper ending as well, or does it just kinda... stop in the middle?

It concludes like the anime sort of. If I remember correctly (I don't have it with me to look) She admits love, he takes Rue and it ends.

Very similar to the end of the anime ending, and by anime ending I mean the last 30 seconds.

I heard that the manga cut out a lot of the elements of the anime, including the fairy tales. Is that true?

I didn't know there was a Princess Tutu manga, I have to check it out sometime!!!

Since it's only two volumes long I think I'll read it.
Even though if it does butcher the story a bit.

A lot of the fairy tale parts are either cut or really really short, but none the less it's worth reading to see for yourself.

I wouldn't buy it though, it's not worth the money.

No but I want to.
Even if it is childish compared to the Anime.
I'm considering ordering it of Amazon.
Just Christmas left my family broke apparently.
Though I didn't ask for that much...
They just got me a lot of stuff.
