MikeeBoi's Guide to Guild Chat!

LW Chatroom!

Here's a quick how-to to IRC newbies to get up and running.. or chatting.. whatever works for you... or if you have a laptop, do both.. don't blame me if you break it though ^^

First, you need 2 register a nickname; you can do this 2 ways:

Easiest way to regester a nickname, here

Harder way = Go into the chat, as any name (other than guest), go into the nickserv panel, and click register nick, pick a pass and email, and done. DO NOT MESS WITH THE OTHER SETTINGS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, and unless you're a UOP or higher, you won't be able to do them anyway, and half don't work anyway

Then go to the guild chat room, log in using the name and password you used to register, like any sane person would do, then start chatting

Numerous options are available in the commands pull-down menu, involving avatar, images, buddy list and more
(some panels are only available to AOP's and SOPS (Automatic operators (mods) and Super operators (Super mods... who would have guessed?)

To start a personal chat with a person, double click their name.
To ignore a person, go into the ignore panel and add there nickname.

Moderators have a @ before their name, Super moderators or the founder (Me) have a red.. spider.. thing.. next to the @
if you want to be a moderator, you'll have to discuss it with me and Aegis, as, I might own the chat, I don't own the guild xD

You can change font colour, underlining etc.. just by clicking the colour.. dont click loads, or it sometimes messes up
For custom settings, use the Session Information command pull-down, although, I do NOT recommend messing with these unless you know what they all mean.

After a week I will be requesting a Bot for the room (room needs to be a week old) so it will have flood and swear filters on it.
Please avoid excessive swearing and flooding in the room, as when the bot comes in, you can't avoid it.

I have set it so that the sounds are mod and permission only, to avoid sound-spam, if you wish to use the sounds, you'll have to ask an operator online in the chat, abuse of the sounds will results in you losing them, simple

Hope you all enjoy the chat

Guild Chat Rules

I know, I know...we all hate 'em, and I know you guys are very well-behaved, but it doesn't hurt to get a solid foundation built.

1. Be courteous. Just because it's a live chat, that doesn't give you the right to be rude or harass other members.

2. Keep cursing to a minimum. To be honest, swearing doesn't bother me at all, but it might be offensive to others, so just don't do it.

3. Have fun. You must. No choice. twisted

4. No killing each other <--rule implenented due to first chat whee

5. Use common sense

Mod Rules

1. To become a Mod, basic knowledge of IRC chatting is a must. I'm clueless to it, so I'm already a detriment to modship.

2. I may mod-you-up at any point if I have to run off from the chat; if I do this, it'll most likely stick to ya unless you abuse it.

Who May Enter--Important!

Feel free to invite friends from other guilds as well as those who aren't even on Gaia. Actually, please invite them. Just keep in mind the subject matter. If someone isn't into psionics and the occult, please don't invite them.

Minutes

September 8th, 2007:

Total Duration around 8 hours on a come-and-go basis

Around
nine members; three guests not from the guild

Note: A log could not be made due to the fact that Java was used. I will be logging all other chats from now on and will have transcriptions available to those interested.

Topics Covered: Introductions; How to Dodge MikeeBoi's energy-eating aura (everyone failed); How Kizzy's plot to be energy blasted for the first time was trumped due to a shield Taheagan had placed two days prior unbeknownst to poor Kizzy; Taheagan's wings, a lot about Taheagan's wings (and how Kizzy hates them); Setting up of lesson plans; Complaining about guides and angels

September 15th, 2007:

Total Duration around 8 hours on a come-and-go basis

Around
nine members; three guests not from the guild

Note: Logs are now available for those interested!

Topics Covered: Taheagan and Mikeeboi continued to duke it out as we never really got around to teaching.

September 22nd, 2007:

Topics Covered: I pretty much sat this one out; if anyone has a nice summary, please post it!

September 29th, 2007:

Total Duration around 9 hours on a come-and-go basis

Around
nine members; one guest not from the guild

Topics Covered: Dealaa gave us a wonderful breakdown of the angelic choirs, Randa and Mike had it out (which I'm still debating how to handle), I got into an argument due to my complaining, and general mayhem ensued.

Topics up for Voting

Teachers

This is less up for vote and more a request of you guys. If you have an area you feel proficient in and are willing to teach during a chat session, please post here or drop me a line to set things up! Don't worry, it's not uber structured or anything.

Chat Time

Still up for debate is the time, day, and frequency of our chat sessions. Some members wished it would be more than one day a week. If you have preference on this, or the day and time in general, please post here!

Chat Program

Still up for debate is our current host. Note to Pidgin users: you can set it up to work in your IMing program. Contact me or NinjaLayer for information.

I'm free to teach the later half of the chat this weekend, or to do it next weekend. ninja

In any case, I'm sure I'll be there. Was fun last time.

Why are all the topic areas closed? Are they only open when there are events here? I'm sorry but I'm not someone who has so much free time in my life that I can attend events. I thought these forums were usually used like message boards.

Oh, I'm sorry dear. I JUST closed off the topic areas (subforums), because nobody was checking them for new posts. All the threads that were in those areas were moved to the main discussion area, so nothing is missing. You can still post in them.

The guild chat is a very new development, and is far from being required. This *is* a message board, but for those of us who would like to have a live chat on top of that, it's now available. heart

Unless Taheagan doesn't show up or freezes up or his lesson is a complete flop, is it okay if you teach next weekend? We'll kind of wing it, but that's my current thought. heart
