I've always had massive veins. Perhaps it's not a result of playing as much as it is that the increased bloodflow to our extremities makes it easier to play for extended periods of time? Maybe people with uberarteries are just predisposed to playing instruments. You should conduct a scientific study and come back with the results.
Could be so. My friend from school (who's been playing since she was a child) also has the junkie-veins thing going on, and it's something I've noticed on a lot of guitarists' hands when I've seen bands playing. It's a chicken-and-egg thing, which came first? It's like having longer fingers on your left hand. I reckoned the longer left hand was a result of all the stretching; my dad (who's a biologist) said, if anything, my longer left hand made me predisposed to playing guitar.
Funny thing is though, the lead guitarist from my band (who's awesome) doesn't have sticking-out veins in his hands. Neither does our rhythm guitarist.
