The feather is slightly cold to the touch, the snowflake on the end is more cold. Donovan had only wanted a gift for Kara. Now... he wasn't so sure... The feather moved slightly, like floating in the wind. This definately was just a gift anymore.Name: Yukiko

History: Yukiko Winters was given to Kara Winters as a feather for a gift by her father Donovan Lau, because her gift giving was under the suggestion of her brother Yukito, her name was then given Yukiko. Both names have the same origins and simply mean the same thing, either snow child or happy child.
It was quite a surprise when Yukiko turned into a little snow girl, complete with blue hair, pale snow like features, it surprised some that she chose to look after flowers, but Yukiko it was a means to an end. She wanted to make people happy, and thought that flowers, whether it is the real thing or the form itself makes people happy.
She spends her time mucking around in her garden, or baking.

Appearance: Kara, despite the fact she is in her early twenties looks far too young, it might have to do with her blue-green eyes and short brown hair, or it could do with the fact she’s 5’1. A bit on the pale side, Kara is just incapable of tanning, not that she hasn’t tried on several occasions. She doesn’t wear jewellery often unless it’s a necklace, and has a strong preference for dresses or mage robes.
Donovan, on the other hand, seems to be Kara’s complete opposite. His stylized short black hair, with his brown eyes hidden behind polished glasses gives off the air he likes to be neat for the most part. He seems Asian in origins; however he’s quite tall standing at 6 flat suggesting he might hail from the mountain regions of his home. On the job (being Kara assistant), he refers to wear business clothing and dress shirts. For everything else there are his favoured black pants, white shirt and black trench coat. Donovan, seems to enjoy the colour black quite a bit.
Personality: Kara is, for the most part an unusual mixture of being quite wise and at the same time very naïve. She is not a stranger to the bad things in the world, but remains quite optimistic about people, and while she does have a lot of worldly knowledge, she tends to be dense about things that go on behind closed doors. However, she is kind, a bit over protective, and practical when it comes to children, her emotions are quite open.
If Kara is open in her emotions, Donovan is not so much, unless he is annoyed. He too has worldly knowledge, but it comes in the form of being worldly wise. What Kara lacks in street smarts, he makes up for it and tends to be a bit pessimistic about the nature of others. He’s unfortunately pragmatic to a fault, making him blunt by nature. Though, he does have an impish side, one that he doesn’t show often and gives into subtly.
History:
Donovan and Kara both have long direct and indirect histories with the clans of the East where they come from. Donovan is from the Lau clan, son of Lau Long and Ying Mi, whom by nature have always been assassins or bodyguards, often the former rather than latter. Kara’s biological parents are unknown to her, but she was adopted by Daemon Winters, who in turned married Mizu Yume of the Mizu clan. Since Daemon no longer had ties with his own family, he did by some default, became an extended part of Yume’s clan. The former Mizu clan head had been disgusted by the rejection Daemon suffered under his father, that she had requested upon his and Yume’s marriage that when the time came Winters would be a clan of it’s own.
Despite both having clan connections, and their fathers Long and Daemon having a long friendship with each other, the two would have never met. Donovan, it was theorized might have met Kara briefly when he was two and she was a baby, but that is relatively unknown. Being from a minor branch clan, Kara had no reason to attend clan gatherings, and Donovan had been to far too many for his liking. At the age of six Donovan began his training, while when Kara reached the same age her mother Yume passed away. Circumstances are unknown, some claimed it to be the cause of an evil spirit, Yume’s sword became in possession of her father, instead of returning it to her maternal clan.
At the age of fourteen Kara was left orphaned as her father had mysteriously disappeared along with her mother’s sword. According to Long, he had died, though the sword would later turn up in old ruins of another world where time passes far more quickly than her world. The sword would have stayed in those ruins for more than a century before being picked up by Gion Aldrich, Elnara Aldrich’s brother. During this same period of time Donovan had begun his career, while still continuing his education, but now a young adult in the eyes of his clan he is officially given a real weapon to call his own.
Despite Daemon’s death, Kara was well cared for (though some unusual precautions on Daemon’s part). She was sent to a boarding school for magic and specialized in potions and runes. At the age of eighteen she graduated, taking on the butterfly is her person symbol. Donovan, of course had finished his studies two years previous, and had been a full professional by this time. His exact activities are unknown.
Sometime shortly after Kara graduated she had begun to travel with a friend, it was in that moment most believe she and Donovan met for the first time. Donovan had been given a job, which was actually a set up, planned to dispose of him before he became too troublesome. While he did get away inflicting more injuries on his attackers than they did to him, he was still severely injured and sought refuge in an alleyway where Kara found him. Despite the practical reasoning of her friend, Kara begged him to help her, help Donovan. They went their separate ways again as Kara disappears to travel the world very shortly after Donovan returned to health.
For the next four years Kara would travel wherever there was something interesting to see, and Donovan would continue on with his career. After four years Kara settled down and began adopting children into her care. She would also go on to found a school for magic and fighting with a fellow parent Tracy Scott. It was in the first year of the school’s existence that Donovan appeared, claiming to be Kara’s Life Assistant Manager. Though no school records exist of such an agreement, by this time Kara had fourteen children, therefore the idea was not beyond belief. Donovan however, in reality was hired by a third party because someone had decided Kara’s body parts would be good for an experiment.
Neither of them expected to fall in love, Kara had just come out of a bad relationship, having been abandoned without ever being asked what she wished for, nor did Donovan never strike himself as a person to fall in love. Falling in love was easy; trying to understand those feelings were much more difficult. In addition Donovan had to get over the fact he was annoyed at the fact that he had fallen in love. The two would confess six months into their professional careers with each other; Donovan of course dropped the job on Kara. He also made it clear he would dismember anyone else who tried taking the job. Shortly thereafter Kara adopted her fifteenth child Elnara Aldrich, whose family (minus a few people) also rejected her. Though Elnara is technically an adult, Kara still considers her, her daughter.
In the period in which Yukiko is discovered, Kara had already seventeen children before the adoption of Yukiko. Donovan by this point is living with Kara, however is not married with her. This does not prevent him from taking on a father role, as he helps educate, train and keep safe the children of the house. While the two sleep in the same bed without sleeping with each other, the lifestyle they have created has potential to create a scandal among the clans. Clans, which Donovan rather not deal with, and an aspect of life Kara had taken very little part of growing up.

This was the home Kara moved into when she still only had two children and two pets; the inn which places itself in the outskirts of Barton was a godsend now. Without the inn, there was no way Kara could room her whole family. The family itself has the entire fourth floor, though the third floor has now been converted into a place where her children with full families can live. The ground floor, with its dining room and sun room has become the perfect place for the children to play and eat in. It has also allowed Kara to place a huge fountain waterfall in the sun room, where her aquatic children live. Though, despite all the room, and not all the floors being used up, the inn is becoming quite crowded.
The Manor which sits far outside of Barton Town sitting upon acres and acres of land, it belonged to her late father. It was given to him by the head of the Mizu clan in hopes that it would one day become the clan compound for the Winters family. Kara has never claimed it, never come back to it, and does not even know she is entitled to this land, much less the fact her family has the right to claim full clan status. It is possible however, upon her marriage to Donovan, that this claim will come to light, and this will become a potential new home for her family.

It is impossible at this point to give an exact number of how many children there are within the Winters household, for no other reason than the fact the number can change at any moment. However, their portraits hang here sitting all in a row, according to eldest to youngest (in order of adoption).                  It’s hard to imagine someone who has barely begun her life to already have nephew and nieces; however she has many older siblings. Those siblings who have decided to start lives of their own have adopted or had children. For the most part, most of their portraits are here.
Yume Mizu Winters – She died when Kara was around six years of age, in life she was a spiritualist cleansing sites and ridding the world of demons. In death, some say her spirit still lingers waiting for rebirth. She is Kara’s mother
Lau Long - He’s a pryo, loud, and is the only person who can and will piss Donovan off on purpose. He is Donovan’s father.
Lau Ying Mi- Calm, thoughtful, cunning and sly, Mi is one of the few people who pays close attention to clan politics, for no other reason than to look out for her family. She is Donovan’s mother.

The room is unusually arranged, compared to most other rooms in the home. The bed is a circle, which was placed in the middle of the room surrounding by a misty canopy of such a light blue it looks white. There are pillows of different shades of blue on the bed, and there are shelves mounted all along the walls except where the wide window is and the desk would one day be placed, though for now there is a toy box instead. With all this blue themed room, Kara was afraid it would look too depressing so she put a potted plant with pink flowers on one of the shelves.
