Just letting you know: this rp is about people that are already dead. Unless someone live manages to find their way here. But as of now, the character you create must be dead. Many people that reach this river have committed suicide, been murdered, or lived unhappy lives, although of course it's up to you about who your character is and what they're like.

The Lethe River is an ancient legend, the subject of many stories. It is said that when one crosses the river, they reach a place somewhat like limbo. It is neither heaven nor hell, here nor there...

By the time you get to Lethe, you probably don't remember much about your death. You know it occurred, can still see the distant outline of it if you think hard enough, but that's it. You probably wouldn't even want to remember it, but there you go. You still keep trying to remember, wracking the corners of your brain. But it's gone, the memory leaving behind only a faint wisp of itself. Some things are better not to dwell on, though, so instead you look around.

What is this place? All you can see is a long, winding river along the horizon, as far as you think possible. No buildings, seemingly no vegetation, and certainly no people. It is perfectly deserted, except for you, and a few dust-colored birds perched on scrawny, thin trees. Here and there you see a squirrel, but none of the animals are very friendly. You have a vague feeling of fear, of something strange around surrounding you, something twisted and ugly and horrifying. The place is so empty it gives off the feeling of a ghost town.
Of loneliness. Abandonment. Despair.

And furthermore, everything is gray. The river's gray, the ground, the sky. If you were to look at your hand right now it would be gray too. It is all a grim, deserted, dead gray. The river seems to stretch on as far as you can see. It's waters, a deeper gray than the rest of the landscape, are cloudy. Too deep to stand in, too deep to see to the bottom. There are small puddles of clear water here and there, as if it had just rained, but when you look up at the sky you see only a clear gray, as if a sheet of tinted glass had been taped over the real sky and the sun. You scan the horizon again, just to check. Nothing? Really?

The only thing to do seems to be to cross the river. But how?

Username:

Age at death:
History:
Bio (optional):
Appearance: (links would be best)
Other:

Profiles:

Username: Love-struck Loser
Character name: Nami
Age at death: 15
History: Nami always lived a happy life, surrounding herself with happy people and smiling her way through. However, one day on the way home from school she was kidnapped. She'd always lived in a dangerous neighborhood, and at about 8'o clock in the night she had a fight with her parents, something entirely stupid but insulting to her 15-year-old mind. She walked out angrily to sit on a bench in the park and was taken. She was later killed after the kidnapper realized there were police on their trail.
Bio: Nami was always cheerful, charming, friendly. Teachers, parents, peers, Nami never made enemies. She always took a cheerful attitude on life, another endearing quality of hers. Nami was always surrounded by friends, seeming to be constantly having a good time. Some people considered her shallow, fake even. And maybe she was.
Appearance: Nami
Other: Nada

Username: Isabeau-the-Red
Character name: Cyrille (see-REEL) Gautier
Age at death: 17
History: Cyrille tended to be lost in a fantasy most of her life, waltzing through her days as if detached from the world. She didn't socialize very much, only when she had to, she had her own friends. In her ideal world dragons were very real, they were her ideal fantasy. When Cyrille was forced to tune in to the real world, a deep melancholy would consume her, as she mourned the loss of perfection in her alternate reality. The people at her school would stay away from her, calling her, that weird girl, and her parents had sent her to therapists many a time in hopes of finding out why she tuned out reality. Their probing had always found nothing. Eventually, Cyrille had confused reality with her reality so much that she jumped from a building thinking she would fly away safely.

Thus was her death.

Bio: To the casual observer Cyrille seemed just to be unfocused most of the time, bored as well. When forced to have a conversation she would answer questions shortly and without emotion. It was the exact opposite when she was in a fantasy, she could have in depth conversations with her alter egos for hours at a time. Cyrille is pleasant enough, but is a blank slate in reality.
Appearance: Cyrille

Username: X..candi..X
Character name: Jessica Rosales
Age at death: 16
History: Everyone sees her as the perfect popular girl. On the outside, she fakes a smile to get everyone else happy but on the inside, she's almost the exact opposite. Her parents were drunks and sometimes beat her. One time, it got so bad that even with her attitude, couldn't stand it. She ran outside of her house and down an ally. It was dark already and she was in a bad part of the neighbourhood. The next day, the police found her raped and killed in the same place.
Bio (optional): U'll find out later xD
Appearance: (links would be best) Jessie
Other:She loves Linkin Park? XD

Username: x- -I Luff Candy- -x
Character name: Kioko Mizuko
Age at death: 16
History: Kioko was a very optimistic girl, she loved hanging out with her friends, but she was obsessed with one thing...ghosts and spirits, as soon as she learned about them, she became horrified with them in an addicting way. Kioko had been told by people to not mess with the unnatural, so she decided it was for the best to not mention this to others, she kept it all to herself. Then, one day she met this ghost, it was a young girl no older then herself, the ghost had lond hair that reached down her back and wore an olden colonial time outfit. They had become addicted to each other, asking questions nobody would ever dare ask a ghost of that time. But she did anyways and she knew that there was no turning back, once you entered a ghosts life, getting it mad would mean the worst...you own death.
then, after a while, kioko thought she found the man of her dreams. he had been on vacation from and had lived in chico, california. Kioko couldnt dare live without him and so she decided to move, only problem was, her ghost friend was forever confined within the town kioko lived in. kioko begged her and she got mad, to the brink of trying to kill kioko herself, but kioko escaped, forever haunted by that girl ghost in her mind...she moved to Chico to be with him. Then one dark day, on the way home from a date, kioko needed to hurry up and reach home...there was a shortcut, but it was over a bridge, she had heard about that bridge before, how during the darkest of days, that place is haunted, a massive car accident took place there and it is where ghost come and feast on innocent people, trying to kill whoever they could get. But kioko was too stubborn and went over the bridge anyways, in the side of the road, there was a young girl, much like her friend, Kioko got too scared and sped up, pasing the girl whom kioko thought to see her smirk when they passed. She looked in her rear view mirror to see if the girl was gone, and instead found her in her back seat smiling a sinister smile, the girllunged at kioko and stabbed her with the sharpest thing that was in the car, a pencil. Kioko screamed and turned the wheel, making the car hit the bridge poles which in turn, ended kioko's life too.

Nami slowly opened her eyes, lids heavy. She looked up first, expecting the surge of blue she usually saw in her LA home. That blue made her feel so happy...where was it? She frowned slowly, too muddled to to do anything quickly. Why was the sky gray, then? She started to get up, dusting off her legs. Funny. They seemed to be gray too. And the ground. She sighed. Of course she'd chosen to wear a miniskirt today...Whatever. She'd deal.

Nami looked around herself, noticing the lack of just about...everything. There was nothing there. Nothing but a river. She started to walk towards it, wondering if anyone else was here. Nami wasn't used to being alone for long, it made her feel so sad. But today it made her feel better. She was the only one for miles and miles and miles, alone. Today she liked that idea. She looked around thoughtfully. "Hello?" She called loudly, and the word echoed back at her. "Hello...hello...ello...ello...ello...lo..." It trailed off. Although, what was it echoing off, Nami wondered.

Cyrille was barely aware of being awake, her limbs felt heavy as if she had been in a deep sleep. For some reason or another she remembered the strangest sensation of falling. With that thought Cyrille opened her eyes and sat bolt upright. "I fell, from..." As soon as she had the thought it started slipping away, she tried to grab it back but it was gone just like that.

Cyrille lowered her arm, she had unconsciously raised it. It was then she noticed her surroundings, though there wasn't much to notice. Everthing was gray, a blank slate of gray stretching endlessly into the distance, only interrupted by a gray river that wound it's way across the vista.

Even Cyrille was gray, the same as the girl some distance away from where she was sitting.

Nami turned quickly at the sound of someone else's voice. A girl. Another girl. Another human being! A smile lit up Nami's face suddenly, spontaneous and bright. She started to walk over to the girl, eyes serious now.

"I'm Nami," She said after finally reaching the girl. She looked her up and down, not caring that she was being obvious. She looked a bit older than Nami, but not too much. She was pretty, a different kind of pretty than Nami was used to...less obvious, probably.

"Um...do you have any idea where we are?" Nami asked timidly, looking around her again. "I just got here...this place sort of creeps me out,"

Kioko had slowly gotten her senses back, the smell of death was everywhere..she got up rubbing her head from teh ache she had and looked around...the place was dark and foggy...she saw nothing else...Kioko got up from her spot and noticed that she was on a foot deep rectangular hole that was just big enuff to fit her...
"Oh, MY, GOD!!!! AHHHH!!!!" Kioko said jumping from her postion and ran
Kioko saw bent crosses and burned down wood everywhere, it was all rotting...
where am i!?!? she thought to herself...
Slowly, in the not too far distance, kioko could make out two figures in the fog, she ran towards them hoping to know where they were...
"excuse me? do you know where we are?" Kioko asked the two all at the same time bent over and panting from her running...she didnt see who they were, but they looked like humans from afar...

Nami turned around quickly, seeing another girl running towards her. "What?" She said in surprise, an expression of shock on her face. All of a sudden, another person. Just out of the blue. How were they getting here? How had she gotten here? It wasn't very clear. "I...I'm sorry. I don't know, I'm a little freaked out here!" Her voice cracked, the fear prominent in her face. This place was different. Different from where? Nami could remember a certain place where she'd been happy, mostly, but now she couldn't see it in her head. As if someone had erased it.

Kioko had looked up at the girl...what she saw freaked her out...it was either that her ees were decieving her, or both of the girl were as pale as dead people...
"I-I-I s-see d-d-dead p-people" Kioko whispered barely in an audible voice, almost a silent whisper, tears flowing down her face but she couldnt feel the warmth of her body, only the cold tears....

((Thank you!)) Nami stared at the girl, at the tears rolling down her cheeks. "What...?" She said quietly, the words not registering. "Dead...?" She shook her head.
"The gray. No. Yes. I don't know. It scares me too," She said, finding herself whispering now for whatever reason, her voice as barely audible as Kioko's.

((...whaa? ))

Jessica stirred and opened her eyes and found herself on the ground.
She slowly rubbed her eyes and sat up.
Something was wrong.
The ground...Gray...The sky too...Everything.
Maybe something finally kicked in her but she jumped up so quickly, she saw spots.
As she did when she was nervous, she twirled a strand of her hair.
((Eh...would her hair be gray too? >.> ))
She glanced down at her hands.
Her normally pale hands weren't pale, but...
"Gray."
She thought, her eyes widened as she let out a scream.

((sry, rushing, eating time here... sweatdrop ))
"i see dead people..." Kioko said again in a much louder whisper, "gray...dull...pale...cold....dead" Kioko said with her tear stained face...
"thats how you, me and she looks like...dead"

Cyrille stood up, putting her weight gingerly on her legs, as if they were going to buckle any second. She barely heard what the girl had said, but she had heard it. Dead. Could they all really be dead? Where were the pearly gates and the angels waiting for them?

She looked at her own skin, it blended in perfectly with the grayness of the ground, just like the two other girls'. Without a word, Cyrille walked off purposefully towards the river, she had to see herself. This could all be just a dream, this couldn't be real, she absolutely could not be dead.

Carefully, she dropped to her knees and bent over the water, not knowing what she would see.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:19 pm

Nami found herself shivering, her shoulders disregarding her instructions and shaking like a leaf. "I suppose it makes sense," she said in a strange voice. "I guess it all does--add up. To being dead." She felt the sudden urge to cry.

After a moment, she realized that one of the girls, the one that had come directly after her, was sitting by the edge of the river. Nami shook her head violently. This place was too confusing. She could feel the images and people and words piling up and up and up in her head, and all she wanted was for it to stop, right now. Straightforward things were good. This was just mixed up.
