Today I went to a 5Kmile walk/run for the Race for the Cure event. I was sooo touched by the woman that showed up. Out of JUST the people who walked/ran there was 16,300 people! That had set a new record for out city. I'm not sure if anyone on here knows or have known someone with breast cancer but I know it's a hard thing to go through.
I've had a few friends of my family go through it and I'm afraid my mother might be getting it. She found a lump on her left breast a while back. The doctor said it was just a cyst but also told her to get it removed through surgery. My mother is as stubborn as I am when it comes to doctors..but this is one of those times I wish she would listen.
I'm writing this here for anyone going through something similar. When I signed up for the race I was just doing it so I wouldn't be bored. But once I got there my mind changed on why I was really doing it.
With that I leave you a song that Melissa Etheridge wrote for woman who have gone through with breast cancer and are still alive today.
I Run For Life Lyrics
It's been years since they told her about it The darkness her body possessed And the scars are still there in the mirror Everyday that she gets herself dressed Though the pain is miles and miles behind her And the fear is now a docile beast If you ask her why she is still running She'll tell you it makes her complete
[Chorus:] I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother, your sister, your wife I run for you and me, my friend I run for life
It's a blur since they told me about it How the darkness had taken its toll And they cut into my skin and they cut into my body But they will never get a piece of my soul And now I'm still learning the lesson To awake when I hear the call And if you ask me why I am still running I'll tell you I run for us all
[Chorus:] I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother your sister your wife I run for you and me my friend I run for life
And someday if they tell you about it If the darkness knocks on your door Remember her remember me We will be running as we have before Running for answers Running for more
I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother, your sister, your wife I run for you and me my friend I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother your sister your daughter your wife For you and me my friend I run for life Ohohohoh
I run for your mother your sister your wife I run for you and me my friend I run for life

If I'm not mistaken, Melissa Etheridge wrote the song because of her own cancer battle and for those who supported her through it

I don't think my Bf is a huge fan, but he does like her music My area has Dragon Boat Races in the summer for Breast Cancer Survivor fundraising. It is neat to go to. My agency even has a team that enters. http://survivorsabreast.com/
