Ah! You beat me to it, Chocky
wink Here's my review of it... I just got it today and there are some songs (Ajab Si!!) that I really enjoy moreso than others.
Music review of Om Shanti Om by Operation Alchemy/Christina
01. Ajab Si: The beginning is wonderful. It sounds like the perfect romance song, almost like Mitwa from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. I can really easily see myself loving this song to bits and pieces. Even listening to it, it makes me all happy inside.
smile 02. Dard-E-Disco: A very old Bollywood style song! I would almost expect this song to pop up from Sholay or something! I'm not sure what the movie is about, but after seeing pictures of SRK with a 70's look, the song does seem very appropriate!
03. Deewangi Deewangi: Unless I'm mistaken, this is the song with the 30+ Bollywood stars (I'm so excited to see Dharmendra, omg!). I've seen pictures of Shahrukh Khan dancing with Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Salman Khan (which is just about a dream for me, especially after seeing Sanjay Dutt being amazing in Mission Kashmir), and I feel like I hear Saif's voice, wow! This will probably be the most fun song in the movie--lots of dancing, I hope! A very good song, one of the best on the album.
04. Main Agar Kahoon: It sounds like a dream sequence, especially from the whole 'dreamy' tone I felt from the beginning of the song. Very romantic, too! Ah, if only Shahrukh would woo me like that. I enjoy this song, too, but perhaps not as much as Ajab Si. I'm tempted to start singing "Agar Main Kahoon" from Lakshya when I look at the song title, but I'm sure I can get past that.
05. Jag Soona Soona Lage: What a depressing song. I don't know what else to say, the song just gets me sad. I can't feel happy about it or anything. Interesting song, though, it doesn't seem to be anything that I've heard before. It seems to be better the second time around, though.
06. Dhoom Taana: Not one of my favorites. It'll probably be the one where I skip over it the most. Not that it's bad, necessarily, but it just doesn't seem to stand out for me, like that one song from Jaan-E-Mann (I don't know the title, but it's the one where Salman is singing on stage and it has "bro" in the title... although that song probably hurts a lot more than Dhoom Taana does).
07. Dastaan-E-Om Shanti Om: When I began listening to this song, I thought I was listening to Main Agar Kahoon again, because the beginnings sounded so familiar--that dreamy sleep sound. But, it sounds like such an epic song. Unless I'm mistaken, it sounds very much like that "last song of the film" song. Good, though, I enjoyed it a lot. It leaves the album on a good final note.
Sorry, I'm not a fan of remixes--I just like the original songs. Besides, I can't tell a good remix from a bad one, so I'm sure you don't want my input on that. I'm happy that there are seven original songs. A few months ago, I believed that songs were on their way out. While Bollywood films obviously don't have 14 or 15 songs in them anymore like Motha India did (exception of Hum Aapke Hain Koun, but even that was over a decade ago), songs aren't being limited anymore. Let's hope that my faith stays restored...
Anyway,
rediff and
indiafm both gave Om Shanti Om very praising reviews (I just glanced over it--the star rating is really what matters, right?) and it did get higher music reviews than Saawariya did... Sorry, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I enjoyed Black, Devdas, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam very much, but I've already made plans on the weekend of November 9th to see Om Shanti Om.
