I go for Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, Mamoru Oshii, Takashi Kitano, Akira Kurosawa, Katsuhiro Otomo and more I cannot remember =)

My favorite directors would be:
Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Memento)
Tony and Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Man on Fire, Deja Vu)
John McTiernan (13th Warrior, Die Hard 1&3)
Those are my top favorite directors, but of course I like Guy Ritchie and Akira Kurosawa as well since you guys mentioned those as well.

The Coen Brothers (Fargo, Miller's Crossing)
Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Prestige)
Alfred Hitchcock (You damn well better know who Alfred Hitchcock is.)
Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Goodfellas)

Wong Kar-Wai - is my favorite movie director. His movies are beautifully done and the music goes perfectly with the moods of the scenes. I suggest to start with the movie Chungking Express. Its a great film to be introduced to his style, though it does require one to watch it more than once to fully comprehend what is happening. This movie is about how everyday we interact with people and depending on our choices we could end up deeply influencing their lives.
