This is one of the Pokémon you get from Professor Rowan in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It’s quite charming, so I’m sure there were quite a few people who chose it. Suddenly, it starts sliding around using Surf!
The simpler the stage, the greater the effect of this may be. If you’re wondering why, it’s because anyone who gets caught up in that surf will get washed way with Piplup. They’re getting washed away!
If you get washed away, do what you can to get back. Even simple characters like this really stir things up on stages.

I also chose Piplup, but Empoleon's moveset was too limited for my liking, so I switched him for a Gastrodon.
When I first saw Piplup on the Smash Bros. website, I imagined a more deadly Marill from SSBM.

I chose Chimchar, because he was cute and used fire.

Hey, if one of your enemies uses Piplup, just use Pit's reflector thing, and it will be reflected in the other direction.
Also, if it kills anyone, it's your point.
P.S. You can also do this with pokeballs. If one is thrown at you, just use your reflector. Then, when the pokemon comes out, it attacks everyone BUT you.
P.P.S. I also chose Chimchar because I like Fire-types.
