The Griffin was packed, or nearly so, and kyler was sitting in a corner with a piece of paper, a pen, and a mug of golden griffin. No, he wasnt getting dunk, however much he wanted to! He was trying to write something, or at least come up with a small little idea that could possibly lead to a song. Thats what he was hoping for, anyways.
What he got was a muddled head, and a blank page. This wasnt working. You;d think that in a packed Taverns, a bard trainee would be able to get ONE idea! Gaah!

Tad made his way through the crowd, two mugs of the cheapest ale in his hands, balanced with several already-written on pieces of paper and a pen. You'd think that on a night like this, the patrons of the inn would be out on the dance floor, not sulking at benches telling bawdy stories. Honestly, if he heard that godawful Crafty Maid song ONE MORE TIME, he was going to go crazy.
Out of the corner of his eye, Tad saw an empty table. He stumbled his way there, hoping that no one would take it before him. When he got there, he found it was not so empty at all.
His roommate and fellow bard-trainee Kyler was sitting there, probably stuck on their latest assignment. Tad shrugged and took a seat anyways. "Any ideas yet?"

Kyler sideglanced with a glare, and sneared at his room mate. Stupid, haughty b*****d Tad. "What do you think?" if he sounded a little bitter, he was. Tad probably had a jillion and 2 ideas already written down and ready to present, and what did HE have? a scribbled drawing of one of the patrons across the way, who hadn't moved in about 3 candlemarks, thus was probably passed out. Or dead.
"Hey.. Hey.." he glanced over at Tad again, this time with a somber, more pleasent expression. well, it wasnt a glare anyways. "You got an idea you could spare? i'm beat, and dont think i'll make it..."

Tad returned the glare, and flipped through his stack of loose papers. "An idea that I could spare?" he repeated, taking the time to study each carefully crafted work of art.
"Are you stupid? Our teachers know a masterpiece when they see one. They know that you can't pull one off, and then I'll get into trouble as well... I think I'll pass." Tad paused, took a gulp from one of his mugs, and made sure that the papers were out of Kyler's reach.
"It's not that hard to think of an idea - if you ARE a bard, of course."

"Yes, well. I didn't getting into Bardic because of my creativity. Well, thats okay. I have my ways to... get by." Of course, Kyler was thinking of his evil, cheating ways. His mind was racing; his brain was like an archive of songs, both new AND old, and he'd used very very old pieces as 'homework' before. Why not now?
His mind came to a rolling stop on one song in particular, one that he hadn't heard mention of ever, by anyone other than dusty, beaten books. That would do..
And he started scribbling down on his paper. "haha, i'm so cool.."

"Yeah, you wish." Tad looked at Kyler, torn between not wanting to snoop, and his own curiousity. "See, you needed me here to inspire you, didn't you?"
Not wanting to be outshone by anyone, Tad grabbed his pen and began writing frantically. This would be the most epic piece he had ever written. It would be a million times better than what Kyler was writing.

Kyler bit his tongue as he scrawled the letters down on his page, line after line, verse after verse... his writing was anything but neat, but it was at least legible, to him anyways, but he was trying to make the letters readable to anyone. This song would go down in Kyler History. This was better then that one time he'd Beated Tad in that Bard duel at that tavern a few months ago.

"This is great. A+ for me!" he dotted the last line and sighed, unconsciously sucking on his now bleeding tongue. "The Great Kyler strickes another one!"

Tad paused in his writing to stick out his tongue at the other trainee. "Don't you mean 'strikes out again'? If you want a real A+, wait until I get the mark back for this song." Tad was about to show off his song, but remembered at the last minute Kyler's habits.
"You'll just have to wait to hear my latest work - I don't want to take any risks. I'm sure that you'll get plenty of chances soon, when it's being played all over Haven."

That made Kyler break out laughing. "Played throughout Haven, huh?" he chuckled, finishing off his ale before giving his head a shake. "Funny how thats never happened to you yet... How long have you been a trainee here? OH yeah, longer than i have!" He broke out laughing again and started folding up his 'masterpiece' so it could easily fit into his bag.
"Lets see what you've got written there, eh? i promise i wont copy it. Or is it another one about some Karsite hanging around heraldic?"

"No-no, it's not about that." Tad blushed and pushed the papers farther away from Kyler's reach. "It's an epic song, way better than my last one. I've been saving my talents, so they'll raise me to journeyman."
Tad finished up his first ale, and downed most of his second. "They don't want me to leave Haven, that's all. I bet they can't wait to see you off. Although I feel sorry for whatever backwater hole they send you to."

Kyler leaned back in his chair, a haughty smirk present. "I'd laugh if they sent me to Karse. It'd be a great accomplishment for me if i got to touch your beloved's home soil first! Haha would that make you jealous?"

Tad went even redder at the mention of 'his beloved'. "They'd never send you to Karse unless they were planning to drive them all crazy with your horrible lyrics. You'd probably offend them all and start another war. There's no way they'd want that."
Tad began the glare-fest all over again, failing to come up with a better solution.

Kyler kept his smirk and chuckled a little more. "Me? offend the karsites? haha.. have you even read your own lyrics? If anything, YOU'D be the one doing the offending! So dont tal- speak of the devil!"
Kyler pointed over yonder with a finger, as if Tad would spot who he was pointing at through the massive crowd. "Isnt that your karsite lovebird?"
Sure enough, Rhyne had found his way into teh tavern after a stressful day as a trainee. One good thing about Haven was that the people easily forgot things like.. being Karsite. A least, most of them. Taverns were usually safe for him :3 He moved up to teh bar to order a drink, careful not to bump into anyone.

"I don't - " The half-assed comeback died on Tad's lips, as he too spotted Rhyne. Suddenly Kyler, the tavern, even Tad's own epic song of greatness didn't seem to matter. If Tad were to die right this instant, he would be one happy dead bard.
"Maybe he'll come and have a drink with us?" Tad wondered, thinking if it would be awkward if he called out Rhyne's name.
