So I watch A Hard Day's Night like, every weekend (or whenever I feel sad because that movie is awesome for making me... you know, happier) and it gave me an idea about a week or two ago (yeah, yeah I haven't been around the guild in like forever. sorry.)
I say we bring back the words "gear" (meaning excellent, great, etc.) and "grotty" (as defined by George in AHDN as meaning "grotesque") into the modern lexicon.
;D

Man I've been saying "Oh my giddy aunt" for like a year or two since I watched A Knight's Tale nad Paul Bettany said during the Audio Commentary that more people should say it more often.
I was like "Alright, then!"

rofl One of my teachers at primary school said "oh my giddy aunt" all the damn time.
As for grotty, that's still common British slang for something grubby and unpleasant. Gear's out of fashion as slang, but I've described stuff as grotty in my time. 'S a great word.

Well, in America "grotty" has transformed into the Americanized "grody" so it's still around in a sense, but I'd like to say it just because whenever I do I get a flash of the scene with George all like "They're dead grotty!" ;D
And gear... gear just sounds cool, in my opinion.

As an older Brit, I thought I'd give you a few other older, funny sayings that were passed on to me from my parents as I grew up. "Don't get your knickers in a twist!" this means 'don't get all upset.' another one is "Don't get your undies in an uproar!" which basically means the same thing. My mother used to say "Keep your drawers on!" meaning 'Be patient and don't get upset.' "I'll have your guts for garters!" meant 'you're in big trouble!' "I'm just poppin' out for a while." means 'I'm just going out for a while.' "Silly sod," or "Silly bugger," or "Stupid cow," instead of 'dumb a**' All of these expressions, I use with my kids. They also say "bum" or "arse," instead of 'butt' or "a**," and "Loo" for 'bathroom' blaugh "Bollocks" is one of my favorite. If someone says "What a load of bollocks" it was used meaning 'junk' or 'crap' Bollocks is actually, a mans 'testiclees' *There are others, but I can't think of 'em right now*. I'd love if people in America used these expressions! Lol

I'd love if people in America used these expressions! Lol I'm in America and I have used some of these expressions. xd I've said "I'll have your guts for garters" since I heard it in Pirates of the Caribbean. Bugger too. And I love bollocks, and I use arse all the time. xd Ha ha, I love the knickers one. I'm going to incorporate that. My mom always told me to keep my shirt on, so I wonder if that was derived from the underwear one. And I usually say I'm poppin' out for awhile. I didn't know it was British-ism. cool
My best friend and I have thrown gear and grotty into our vocabulary ever since we saw A Hard Day's Night. We do need to bring this lingo back and/or to America, Canada, or wherever we live. WORLD-WIDE!!
