Well, as my brother says,' I am mad about Linux'.
And I can't decide which one to use. I have got 4 but got the opportunity to use only two yet.

First one was Ubuntu.
I like it very much with its GNOME desktop and well all its things.
It even supported my modem at first. But then something happened to my modem and it wasn't able to connect anymore!
It did dial but hung up.
I tried configuring through the graphical setup in Networking, with pppconfig and wvdial but all gave the same error.
Even on the dual-booted Windows XP (bro still uses it), he had to reinstall the modem drivers.
Now I can't figure out how to do the same for my Ubuntu.
I tried formatting and reinstall (and losing all downloads gonk ), but to no avail.

So, I tried more versions.
I downloaded Damn Small Linux (a version of Knoppix) and couldn't figure out how to boot it from my USB.

And I downloaded another one whose name escapes my mind currently.

Last, I recently downloaded and install Fedora 7 but it doesn't even detect my modem.

Oh...my modem is a U.S. Robotics 56K Message modem
A dial-up modem that connects with a serial port (no USB), and Ubuntu said it supports that.
Its so called good community support didn't even reply to my post in its forums. scream

So, I need advice on which distro to use that supports modems.
Or is it that I should change my modem?

You need to load the Windows XP driver for your dial up modem the same way you would a WiFi driver. I don't know if this is something NDISwrapper can do or not, I know Linuxant can do this, you will need to check to see if your modem is supported by their driver loader or not. If it is then the down side of Linuxant is you have to buy a $20 License from them, but with that you get the License for life, and free support from them for life. Here is a link for their page one their driver loader for modems http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/?PHPSESSID=b6827fd81daa2d2087d3808695b536b7

I'm not the best help because I no longer use Dial up and I use cable which Linux loaded a Linux driver for my Ethernet card no problem. There may be a couple in this guild that may be able to give you more details

Side note: I though Ubuntu was "Linux for humans" and they can't even bother answering your question. blaugh
