Recently my cat brought fleas into the house and now she's taking medicine, so they should go away soon, but my daughter has all these bug bites on her and they seem to really piss her off. She'll hardly let me put anything on her and she keeps scratching at the bug bites and won't leave them alone. Now she has a rash on her tummy and I was wondering if it could be just from her itching too much. I haven't changed anything recently, except trying to put stuff on her rash. All stuff that's baby safe, like aloe lotion or calendula ointment or stuff I got from the store for babies. I don't put it on often since she usually runs away from me. But really, I just want to know if the rash is just from her itching her tummy too much. I was thinking about giving her some children's benadryl but they don't have dosages for anyone under 6 and Alex is about 2 and a half. I don't want to give her any without knowing the dose.

I just thought of something, lately I've been letting her play at the sink with the dishes and the dish water and water always gets splashed all over her stomach more than anything. There's usually some dish soap in the water (Ivory). Could that be irritating her skin? I didn't think it was that bad but... I haven't let her play in the sink until recently and I just noticed the rash recently.

I'm not exactly sure where you are, but the rash on her tummy could be a simple heat rash. Some people call it "prickly heat" and babies and toddlers are more prone to it than anyone else. If the rash looks like tiny pin-pricks, but itches, it's probably prickly heat. A cool bath will calm it. Calamine lotion works wonders to stop the bug bite itch.

Also, there's a weed that grows around here that's called pig's ear that works well for things like that. It's a roundish type leaf...I'm sorry that I can't describe it better than that. All you would have to do is crush up the leaf a little and rub it on the bites. It's also great for bee stings.

I'm in Georgia and since I've only been here a couple years I'm sort of ignorant about local vegetation. But we did go out today and it's really hot, so maybe it's something like the heat rash, but I'm still suspicious about the dish soap.

Well, try what is recommended for allergies: Try the cool bath. If that clears it up, then it's prickly heat. If not, then try: For seven days, don't let her near the dishsoap. If it clears up then, it's the soap. If not, look for something else- any other changes

"....you know sis, dad said he is very sensitive to many types of laundry and dishsoap. So, i'd be highly suspicious of that soap as well. He said Tide for instance will make him break out in a rash all over his back....and certain dishsoaps give me a red rash on my hands as well. I'd suggest doing the cold bath thing but also just keeping her away from the soap. Especially if the only place she gets a rash is her tummy. That's my 2 cents worth." 3nodding

Yeah, the rash is gone now and I think it was the dish soap. I'm not letting her play in the sink at all now anyways. Since she dumped water on the counter and got a bunch of stuff soaked... stare Needless to say I was a little peeved, especially since I've been telling her constantly not to dump water anywhere on the floor or counter when I let her play in it. But she doesn't listen until I get pissed off. Of course, then she gives me hugs and kisses until I'm not mad anymore. The little cutey. How can I be mad when she does that?

Yes often people have alergies to soap left on the skin, i would suggest maybe using a more naterual soap, like DR. Bonners. It is in concentrate so you need to only use a small amount, and or mix it with water.

You may want to try and do a oatmeal bath it usually works, but I have only done it on my dog. Though I've heard about it at spa's.

It's a very skin-soothing treatment- excellent for dry or damaged skin. ^_^

I remember this stuff! I went on an archeological dig a couple of years ago, and one of the park service workers on the site with us had this soap in the lavender. It's really great and can be used for everything. We even used it on our pots and pans, and it was still gentle enough that my sensitive skin was fine with it.
If you get it, read the whole bottle though. It's hillarious! It's like the soap is a religion all on it's own. xd

You should be! It lists about 101 uses, directions like "apply to skin, massaging in circles always towards the heart," and randomness like "take a ride on the great mother speaceship, Earth!" LOL! I loved that thing. It kept me well entertained for about an hour or so.

Oh, did I mention that it really does work on all clothes, dishes, hair, and skin? Good stuff that.
