Oh Lord- you know I would.
You’ve been the bravest of us all-
And I’ve been put too shame a time or- two.
If it was another man-
I’d challenge him to a duel.
But how can you fight Uncle Sam?
We talked one night over the kitchen table-
You told me about your deepest desire.
I stared at you like you were crazy-
We fought till dawn and then we made up like two lovers do.
Now I’ve burned that kitchen table.
You’ve put away the white dress-
And traded it for some ACU’s.
You say you’re doing this for me and you- and little Jimmy too.
If only I could fight it-
I’d take the man who was trying to steal you away.
But I can’t fight the government-
No this thing is bigger than me and you.
So go trade in your school books-
For an M16 and ACU’s.
