The orange ball of fire dipped low in the sky, most of it was hidden by the horizon, far within the distant. To which, it happened to alter the sky's colors. To distant reds, purples, even hues of purple and perhaps a bit on pink.
Shadows crept in, allowing the half bare tears above, to look oddly down upon the ground. A dust of freshly red and golden leaves had fallen to the forest floor. Fall had been fast approaching, and now the world was reading itself for the winter mate, not far away.
A soft win blew in, rustling said lanky trees. Not all of the forest was yet deserted of leaves. Some, like pineneedles, did not even desert the trees themselves.
Crunching of leaves could be heard, as hooves moved over them.
Gold and Red sparkled in the dying rays of the sun. Along with two spiraling horns.
Water glistened as his snort dripped from the small stream and the male Equu stood straight and tall. Water dripping from his little beard.
He was back! Lien had been gone from the land of the Equu for a whole summer. The heat had become unbearable for the poor dragon Equu. Even though, he himself was a DRAGON. He'd not been to use to the fact of open heat. And in a succession, he'd went to visit his long ago human. Not to say, the human had kept him as a pet. He just refereed to the human as his, as if, the human was the pet instead.
It had been quite some time since Lien had seen anyone. But grueling as it was, his mind had been plagued by someone wonderful. Emerald. A sigh escaped his mouth and he shook his golden mane. He'd truly missed her. Something...something had been enbeded into him he could not described.
Would he see her anytime soon? At all?
What had happened to Em? Had she left? Had she found another...? Had she found a...mate? The thought made him scowl. And something heavy settled within his heart.
Shaking his head again, he turned and started into a gallop away from the street. Trying to forget just right then. To forget. He was not sure. Yet, he knew he'd never forget.

The forests were finally getting cool again. It seemed like it had been ages since a cool breeze had moved across the tops of the trees and the small meadows. Emerald was revealing in the cool air blowing through the meadow she was currently laying in. She'd frequented the edge of the meadows more than the forests the whole summer hoping to catch a cool breeze from under the shade of a tree along the edge of the meadow.
Now she layed right in the middle of the meadow taking in the warm sun and enjoying the cool breezes that made for just the perfect condition. Content and comfortable now she went to her thoughts and as usual when she went to her thoughts she thought of only one thing, a single red stallion named Lien.
She hadn't seen himself since the spring and she wondered where he might be, what he might be doing, who he might be with. The last thought saddened her but if he had found someone then the least she could do was be happy that he was happy but that didn't mean her heart had to be happy. She'd been trying her best to talk herself out of the feelings stirring in herself ever since he had disappeared but the more she tried the stronger they got. All she could do was hope if he had found someone she would never have to stumble upon him with her and finally know for sure. She would rather be left guessing.

The pace Lien set turned to a fast one. He'd found himself to the meadow. Where it was no longer a way to be cooked like an' egg. A breeze was stirring up the grass. He should savor some of it, having mostly hay for a while.
However, he kept on going. As if magically pulled somewheres, like a link...guiding him to the unknown.
Oddly, he knew what it was. Her!
Like a beacon of light, off a darkened shore, she shined to him! Lighting his darken passage.
Lien slowed, he found himself at the crest of a hill. That scooped next to a group of trees. His golden gaze scanned the area. Where was she?
The breeze shifted, tossing his fur about, whipping it through the wind. And obscuring his vision. Making him sputter a bit in distaste and lose his balance. He tumbled backwards down the crest. Franticly he kneed and dug his hooves into the dirt, but he simply slid down anyhow.
Luckily, Lien found his footing. And slid to the ground on his stomach. For a moment he lay there, his main had fallen into his face. Blacking out vision.
And not bit a couple steps away was...Emerald.

It seemed the more Emerald ran through her thoughts the sadder she got. She'd been doing her best to stay away from her thoughts and up until now she'd been doing very well of course her mind had been mostly set on the heat and with the heat pretty much gone she was back to the thoughts of Lien.
Situations and ideas on what had happened to them all ran through her mind. Even planty of daydreams mingled with her thoughts but the funny thing was none of her daydreams of Lien ever had her in them it was always a faceless mare he was nuzzling, a faceless mare he was cuddled up to, a faceless mare who was having his foals, who he was saying I love you to. Her heart ached to be that faceless mare but that possibility seemed bleak.
Rustling and tumbling brought Emerald from her thoughts. It wasn't just a normal rustling this rustling was loud and it caught her attention and kept it. She first looked back towards the trees and then to her sides, it wasn't until she looked in front of her that she saw that yellow mane and red fur. She almost couldn't believe her eyes. It couldn't have been Lien! It just couldn't! "Lien?" She took a big chance speaking out and not knowing for sure if the one before her was dangerous or even who she thought it to be but hope commanded her to speak up.

The voice, it rang out loud and clear. As if like a song, one had forgotten, but not truly forgotten within one's soul.
Emerald!
His heart leapt. To which, he leapt to his feet as well. Tripping a bit, but shook his head, to clear out his face. Luckily, he was red, so none of his embaressment was shown. Though, one could feel the heat radiating from him perhaps....
"Emerald!" He chanted back, quite happily. Then cleared his throat. "It is I." He said, with a nod of his head and solem look. Now was to face the facts, to learn in his absence, what had happened.
"It-It is good to see you Emerald. I have been gone from the land of the Equu for a while...however...you look as lovely...as I left." He could help himself and took a step forward, before shifting his eyes to the ground. Like a young colt, that is what he felt like.

Emerald couldn't believe her eyes. It was Lien! Lien was standing here before her. As he leapt up she too stood still in shock that the stallion she had been thinking of was now standing before her. A small smile crossed her lips as she realized he still loomed over her in height but she didn't mind in fact she liked it that way.
Lien's solumn expression and almost shy way he placed his gaze on the ground did not go unnoticed in fact it worried Emerald. Was there something bad he had to tell her? Or was it worse, good? Had he found a mate and now didn't know how to tell her? She couldn't bear the thought.
"Th-thank you Lien. You look just as handsome as I remember." She said and just as Lien did she turned her gaze to the ground afraid that if she didn't she would meet his gaze and know for sure.

A smile touched his face as she said that. He bobbed his head ", you are quite welcome. And thank you in return."
His golden gaze lifted to Emerald. She was lovely as before, perhaps lovelier, if it were possible. He'd meant what he had said. The lovely green coat of hers drew him to her. He took a step closer.
He noticed her look, how she seemed a but shy...troubled? "It is quite good to see you Emerald. I-If truth be told. I missed your companionship this summer. I am sorry I did not warn you, as I left. But I decided it would be best. I went to visit my human. She was joyed to see me, but I come back now. To reside here while the season brings in the cool air."
He gazed down at her, tilting his head.
He wished to ask...had she decided to find another? Had she moved on without him? "Em...I-I wondered something...it is rather important." Something hummed in the air. He moved closer to her, this time a span of breath apart. He could not help it.

She nodded to his thank you but could not bring herself to look at him. She almost didn't want to hear what he had to say as she just knew that he would tell her he'd found another and was never going to return. However she listened to what he had to say and was surprised. Gone off to see his human? So he hadn't found another mare or had he while visiting his human?
She noted him stepping closer each time he did until finally he was only inches away. His voice was like heaven so close to her ear. Her fur stood on end as she felt his breath on her ears and neck. She had to force herself not to shiver from the warmth.
Finally she pulled her courage together and turned her gaze up to him to look him directly in the eyes. She couldn't mistake the curiousity there as she could see he had a fairly big question awaiting her. "What is it you are wondering Lien?" She asked while tilting her head slightly to the side.

Oh god. So close!
She was so close, he could smell her scent as it drifted up through his nostrils. Swallowing, he shifted, kicking at the dirt a bit. "If you know...have you...as I mean to say...did you...."
Get on with it man! He told himself angrily.
"You haven't gone and found yourself another have you? Like a...mate?" Quickly he ducked his head. Not sure what he was to do. But heat kind of radiated in a small embarrassment. Not sure if he had the right to even ask.

Emerald gazed up at Lien as he spoke at first confusing her. Whatever he was trying to get out must have been difficult. She perked her ears forward not wanting to miss what he was trying to ask.
When he finally got out his question she was rather surprised. Stunned into shocked silence for a few moments she managed to shake herself out of it and shake her head vigorously.
"No no no no... I haven't. I couldn't... I wouldn't. Why do you ask? H-have you?" The last part just sort of slipped from her mouth so quickly that she wanted to hit herself for saying it.

It took a moment for the information to sink in, for him to realize. Soon as it did, a huge grin split his face. He looked rather odd....not cynical, but goofy? One wasn't sure.
He quirked a brow shaking his head. "Nay, I have not. I could not." He spoke with mroe confidence now, the later of his saying a bit softer however. He seemed to be glowing and straightened his shoulders and perked up.
"But that is...good. I mean, not that you're alone but...." He would have flushed then.
"Just...Well how have you been?" He asked, instead of saying how he felt, he avoided it just yet. He'd tell her...soon. Soon as he became a Equu again instead of a chicken.

Emerald was a tad surprised at Lien's odd smile and she felt as though inside he was laughing at her and she felt like turning around and running off to hide from her embarrassment. However his answer to her question stopped her. So he hadn't found another mare? In her mind she thought it was as good as Lien thought her being alone was.
As he continued Emerald held the hope that he would say something about his feelings or ask her about hers however he didn't. Her ears, that had been perked while waiting, fell slightly but she did her best not to look disappointed and shrugged.
"I've been ok. How about you? How have you been?" She asked, unable to get the courage to ask either.

"Quite well...for the most part. The town...it is nice. But I did miss a few things back here." He gave her a soft smile, tilting his head a bit as he watched her.
"And someone..." He shifted, before glancing around.
"It is rather suprising I haven't came across anyone else. Though, I found the best one."

Emerald nodded as he spoke and a smile crossed her maw when he spoke of missing someone. Her smile even widened as he went on and she could feel heat rising to her face.
"Oh? It has been awfully boring around here. Interesting seems more like a foreign term when one is alone." She stated while glancing from the grass to Lien many times.

Smiling he straightened his shoulders. "Well, you are no longer alone. I am here."
Shifting he gazed around.
"Emerald...I-I do wish to talk to you. About something serious....Um...Perhaps we could find somewhere we could talk and be unbothered?" his eyes returned to her. "Preferably where water is a plenty."
He knew he'd need something to help with his cotton mouth.
