I'm sure everyone has seen this by now. "News" stations couldn't help but report it, the guy is now filthy rich, gets his own show, etc.

Well I'd like to talk about newbies and elitists being asses to them. Assuming you know the difference between noobs and newbs, lets get started.

Newbs, especially those who are on a forum based website for the first time, do not understand many things about the forums, for example literacy. I used literacy when I first joined, but I typed more like this,

something like one of my first threads

Hey, does anyone here like the Scorpions??? Aren't they such a great band? IF YOU LIKE THE SCORPIONS PLEASE POST HERE! exclaim exclaim smile

Now, I would post something about the Scorpions, take away the smiley faces, and definitely the "POST HERE."

So I see newbs being harassed, insulted, and worse, just because they don't know something like this, or if they post in the wrong thread, and yes, even beg.

Begging for gold is a big no no ( lol ) on Gaia. You just don't do it. But how is someone who just joined supposed to know this? He sends an email asking for gold, and than someone sends a letter back flaming him, etc.

When someone begs me I politley decline, (unless it's a RL friend).

So discuss being mean to people just because they're new. Pretty simple.

And that is why we (as a guild) have abolished the use of insulting graphics among our members to flame n00bs and/or newbs. 3nodding

Seriously though, it really is a sad thing for an elitist to start flaming a newbie. I mean, all it'll do is infuriate them, dissuade them from further exploring Gaia, and possibly remove a potentially literate and educated member from the wading pool.

I think most people do leave newbies alone, and kindly tell them to go to the chatterbox. Most of the time you can tell a n00b from a newb a mile away, though.

This is an amazing point, especially since not all n00bs are new to Gaia; many aren't.

I'm surprised they don't get banned, really. I checked one a*****e's profile, and he'd been a member for a few YEARS. Can't be right.

I don't care what your species is. If you do something stupid, I'm gonna be a b***h about it. I do the same thing IRL, too. But hell, you can be new and not a n00b. And I've noticed that on Gaia, and even on WoW, that many n00bs are people that have been on for a while. I attribute it to general lowering of intelligence among the youth, and it's rather concerning.

I try to be patient with people... but there comes a point in the process of looking for a thread to read that I just get irritated with people. I start blaming the first guy I reported for posting in the wrong forum for the subsequent 7 other people I report for the same thing... but that's just how my mind works in a bad mood. My good mood's hiding.

I, too, mourn for the decline of intelligence in future generations.

I've gotten good at telling who's a newbie who just made an honest mistake, and who's a n00b. I treat the newbies fairly and help them out, especially in the ED. It's the n00bs I get irritated at very easily.

Newbs are generally ok. Their only problem is ignorance, which can be easily remedied.

It's stupidity that I have a problem with... and tend to persecute mercilessly.
